Has anyone here had a splenectomy and if so, how did it affect your haematocrit, Hgb, and platelet counts?

Hi Spiked, and thanks for answering. I already had the splenectomy years before I acquired secondary polycythemia and my haematocrit never went above 48, (but boy was I sick with it!)

Cheers, Fernie.

Hi Fernie, I just noticed you are from NZ, you only live 34ks from me. It is nice to see one other person from NZ. I thought I was the only one. Kind regards Lyn

Hi Lindiloo, I'm in the Hutt Valley. I'm not quite sure what I've got, haha, it keeps changing, I don't think they really know, but currently my Dr. has me down as having ET. I just go and get my blood tests every three months and my platelets just keep creeping up. I'm on daily aspirin only. Do you go to the Wellington Hospital Specialists?

I live in Paraparaumu. Work in Lower hutt. Yes I see a Haematoligist from wellington, but actually see in at Kene. My blood tests are 6months, yearly visits to Dr Weinkove. I was diagnosed pretty quickly with gene testing and BMP. Only on Aspirin at present, things seem to be ok. Lyn

I was seeing Prof. Carter at Wgtn hospital Oncology 3 monthly for about a year, and also had the two gene tests done, but I'm negative on both the JAK and CALR I think the other one was called. So none the wiser at the moment and they put me on aspirin and put me back to my GP for monitoring. I'm having my blood test this week, so will see how I'm going. I always get a but nervous because if it goes over 1000 I think they may put me on some stronger drugs. I'm 53. I haven't had a BMP yet. I'm feeling pretty well currently.
