My consultant has prescribed Lamotrigine as a preventative. I’m wary as I had terrible side effects with topimirate. Beta blockers do not have any effect. So I have to try a third preventative in order to be eligible for cgrp injections. I don’t want to go backwards in my daily life with the mood swings and general lethargy I experienced in topimirate. But I don’t think I have an option at this stage. Any comments from anyone who has experience with Lamotrigine would be greatly appreciated . Thank you.

Anyone with experience of Lamotrigine as a preventative?
I tried lamotrigine ,but had to stop it due to side effects. I am very sensitive to most medications. I have tried both aimovig and ajovy , but did not help left me side effects that I will have for life. My neurologist is going to try vyepti . It has being approved but not available in Ireland yet. The gepants seem to be working very well for patients in USA with few side effects.I do not know when we will get the gepants. Ireland is the last to get any new medications. There is also a device Neurolief Relivion approved in EU in 2019 but it was brought to market in US last October.I have emailed them several times but they will not give me a date when it will be available here. Patients have had good results and no side effects. Hope you can get some relief soon. I am 68 and in pain everyday. I was only diagnosed 10 years ago by my headache doctor. I have migraines since I was 12 years old , but nobody would believe me, although they are on both sides of my family. Regards,195fifi
Thank you for the reply - much appreciated. I’d not heard if either vyepti or neurologist relivion so will look those up.
I developed psoriasis from aimovig and severe joint pain and inflammation from ajovy and now attending a rheumatologist for the last 2 years.195fifi
I take lamotrigine for epilepsy but it doesn’t help prevent migraines for me, it may work for you?
