When I first started suffering from migraines in 97 I often had migraines with aura and spent many a lesson in the first aid room waiting for the aura to pass. Once I hit puberty the aura part of the migraine tailed off and apart from one odd attack I have not suffered with migraine aura for 15 years although I often suffer from migraines without aura regularly putting me to bed where I am frozen until the episode passes. I was on holiday in May this year and out of the blue suffered a migraine with aura after waking in the morning - I was left with a groggy head after but carried on with my day to then be struck down that same evening with another migraine aura this time putting me to bed for the rest of the day. 2 days late the same thing happened again and I suffered a migraine with aura. It scared me quite a bit and I went to see my gp on returning to discuss the change in my migraines and to be honest he didn't really care. Since these attacks I have suffered what I call normal migraines again and thought maybe this was a blip. Then this week I woke up for work and within 20mins of being up the migraine aura had started and left me feeling rather rotten with a bad head then within 4 hours it was happening again - it felt like the first hit was my left side and then the second was my right side - this resulted in me going to bed to sleep to try and feel a little better. Since then I have felt headachy and very heavy above my eyes almost like a little cross eyed and to be honest this is scaring me as I worry about being in a situation where I'm not lucky enough to be at home when this hits. Has anybody else experienced this and can you offer any advice?

Migraine with Aura
I am sorry to hear it has returned but general protocols apply in all cases - including this episodes.
Food: Must give up all sugary food, fruit juice, alcohol, red meat and oily / deep fried food. Limit dairy including cheese. Less tea, coffee and wholemeal bread only. Plenty of green veg especially Broccoli.
Sleep: Must try to sleep 8 hr every day and go to bed before 11pm.
Exercise: If running is not possible, 30 min brisk walking in the park at least 5 times per week.
---------
Prophylaxis:
1) Magnesium (600 mg /day) but please try Chelated form such as Magnesium Bisglycinate (or Glycinate ) and avoid Oxide or Citrate form.
2) B2 or Riboflavin - the dose has to be 400mg per day, so cannot be purchased from over the counter (try Amazon).
---------
These above steps should minimize the suffering. Please try for 5/6 weeks and let us know.
I got rid of my aura migraine by sheer coincidence - I gave up dairy for another reason altogether and have never had an aura migraine since and its been nearly 18 months, when I was having aura migraine every day and sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. I still eat the odd smear of butter, and may end up eating a little sauce on fish or something in a restaurant made with dairy milk, but I never eat any cheese or dairy yoghurt and milk - and I used to get through over half a pint of milk a day in tea as well as lots of cheese on a daily basis. I don't know if it will help you....
