Eye Strain - Dizziness - Tingling Fingers & Foot - 1 Month later?

Hey,

Just looking for advice really - I had an ocular migraine with aura in my left eye roughly a month ago, this was after playing football. No idea what brought it on or why it happened so quite unnerving.

I have worn glasses since I was 5 years old and have a lazy left eye and astigmatism, I have had to change my glasses prescription since as it wasn’t strong enough but even with new glasses my eyes still can only manage about 1hr of screen time before going in and out of focus(left eye). I am also getting dizziness on and off and sometimes tingling in fingers and foot - has anyone else had this or suffered from it for this long afterwards? I know the postdrome can last a few weeks but now a month later these symptoms are still here. I have now been given propanalol which are migraine preventatives.

Any advice would be much appreciated?

Thanks

Hi

I've never heard if postdrome lasting weeks? I would have thought a few days, it would seem more likely that it was just more migraine.

Exercise is a common trigger of migraine I think because of the release of tension involved in proper exercise.

Your symptoms don't sound very typical of migraine though, I think quite a few people get tingling in their extremities but they usually describe more actual migraine pain in their head than you do.

Have you seen a neurologist? Gp's are generally crap with migraine and us lot on this forum can only speak of our own experiences and are not experts. I would definitely seek medical help if I were you.

Needing glasses and other eye strain related headaches are often a red herring, people who have incorrectable poor vision, partially blind etc, don't generally complain of constant headache. Although I think bright lights for too long can be a problem, I own an unfeasible amount of sunglasses and I live in the UK, but I do have very light blue eyes which aren't good at filtering sunlight.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply - I haven't been referred to a neurologist yet, the beta blockers I've been given are good at stopping migraines apparently, so i guess the GP is thinking the same as you and i am having more migraines without the actual headaches. It's all very unnerving.

I will perhaps use my private health cover and get a second opinion.

With regards to the glasses i thought that having a lazy eye etc could be making the recovery from the initial migraine take longer than usual. I also didn't know i was having a migraine so just took some paracetamol at the time and continued with my normal life, going to sleep late and waking early etc - the GP said i did the exact opposite of what i needed to do in that situation so this could also be another reason for not recovering as quick.

Anyway - thanks again for your reply and insight - i will look to book an appointment with a specialist.

Thank you

Well can only say mine is same when my slipping vertebrae in neck is flaring so think something to do with nerve there brings on same symptoms and aura migraine prehaps you did something played football ⚽️ maybe see your doctor be careful though with any manipulation until they have taken X-rays as they just went ahead with physio on mine which caused more damage, that’s just my experience though check it out hope gets better soon

Thanks a lot for the insight - i have had a lot of back and neck problems previously which have resulted in need Chiropractor etc.

Did you need an x-ray to confirm your issue was slipping vertebrae?

Thanks

Yes I did but didn’t send me for X-ray until they had sent me for 6 bouts of physio and 4 acupuncture for 4 months, which had aggravated the neck and made it worse 😏 now neck flares up a lot so no lifting anything more then a gallon? And have to be careful. Never had migraines with aura before that or blurred vision after watching to much tv or iPad use sometimes just no reason optician says prescription hasn’t changed ? dizzy spells as well always when neck flares up , as I said just my experience, don’t go heavy on physio caused tingling in hands arm after so was aggravating it and could of made it alot worse doctor should do X-rays first rule out possible problem with neck .

Oh yes you could try wearing neck support elasto gel for tv ipad fora while before you get results see if helps will definitely help with neck anyway, so nothing to lose, got mine on amazon, and soft flat pillow , hope this helps , if not neck and back will benefit 😊

Yes have got used to the migraine auras sometimes don’t have them for 6 months then might have 2 a month when first one happened very scary like you went straight off to optician 😊 then didn’t have another for over 18 months, sure you will get sorted out and hopefully feel a lot more assured.
