Does any have eye problems with their migraine

I was diagnosed 5 years ago with basilar migraine but for the last couple of years I have had problems with my right eye . It hurts mostly when asleep and swells up in the corner . I have seen an eye specialist but he can’t find anything wrong with my eye he thinks it could be neurological . My doctor is no help with it and I have tried warm compressed etc and nothing helps .

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thankyou

Hi,

I have migraines with auras. A few years ago, in the winter, my eyes ached, even my eyebrows were itchy. My optometrist said I had allergies and gave me eyedrops (prescription) that contained an antihistamine. It's called pataday 0.2% - I live in Canada so it might be under another name. The optometrist told me to thoroughly rinse my eye area with warm water 3 to 4 times a day - I'm allergic to dust. Hope this helps.

Thankyou liseanne I have tried most eye drops for dry eyes but will try an antihistamine one to see if that helps . I was also advised to keep rinsing my eyes and to clean the lids with baby shampoo but nothing has worked so far.

I’ll try the drops and hope they work

Thankyou

Barbara

Hi,

I've been having eye problems a lot this year. I've had conjunctivitis 4 times in 3 months and my eyelids particularly my eyelashes are itchy but the optometrist can't find anything wrong.

I'm in the UK. I've heard a theory that since the E.U banned neonicotinoids farmers have had to use older, harsher pesticides and this is causing more allergies generally and I live in a rural area. But as I say it's just a theory. My eyes been bad for the last couple of years but I've never thought to link them to my migraines.

Babsmcd-

Have you seen a Neuro-Opthomologist, it is a special eye doctor who only see patients who have Neurological issues. I would request to seen one. A simple Optometrist is not skilled enough to help you. You need a medical doctor.

Good luck

Thank you I will have a word with the doctor when I see her next . I have only seen an optometrist and he said it was a neuro problem as my eyes he said were ok so I think I need to see someone who specialises in this. It’s disturbing my sleep . My doctor suggested sleeping with an eye patch on in case light was getting in !!

An optometrist is not a medical doctor.. they are not skilled at medical issues. They primarily deal with correcting vision problems.

A Neuro-opthomoglgist would specialize in the brain ( including migraines) and determine how the brain and eyes are interacting. I would recommend you discuss your symptoms with a Neuro- Opthomoglgist so they can make logical suggestions. As far as the eye patch this could also impact your vision so let the eye specialist speak to you about that. I would also not recommend sleeping with the type of patch that has a string around the back of your head. If you need to cover your eye, you should use a sticky patch that only covers the eye. But I don't think that is a good idea either, It's not getting answers for your medical issue.

Best of luck

That is interesting, I have also had conjunctivitis twice in the last month only in my left eye, and before that every once it a while it just flares up like crazy. I also noticed it has a small raised bump in the white part next to the iris. I looked it up online and it said that it would be caused by really dry eyes, however, my eyes never seem all that dry on the surface. Apparently they can be dry from the inside, though, so it could be causing irritation to the inner eyelid somehow. I will look into a neuro-opthalmologist! I had no idea that was even a thing.

Me too . It’s very strange that only one eye is affected I am definitely going to see if I can see a neuro opthalomogist . I’ve checked and we have one and my nearest is in Newcastle .

Good luck

I have chronic migraines (daily but varying in severity) which is mainly pulsing/rippling sensation around my left eye and behind eyebrow, and a feeling of "coldness"/compression on left hand-side of my head. However, I frequently get pain like eye-strain behind my left eye. Eyes tested as normal by optometrist (x2) and neuro-ophthalmologist. MRI scans showed mainly normal, with slight thyroid eye disease (fatty deposits) behind left eye but consultant didn't think this was related to my migraine sensations or pain. Now on pregabalin 300mg x 2 and nortriptyline (just started, as was on venlafaxine). Good Luck.
