Hi Tia, I was on 400 mg topamax and sibelium - completely doped for a long time. I started botox almost 2 years ago and I wish I did it before. I'm not taking any drugs at all, I would have been very very bad with migraines. I now use magnesium, b complex , and co enzyme c10. Plus the botox every 4 months. I am lucky that it actually worked, I have my life back. I can go in holidays without ruinning everybody s holidays, I can go to work every day...I get the odd migraine maybe once every 6/7 weeks as nasty as they were before, sure that's a walk in the park for someone that used to have them every 2nd day. Good luck! I hope it works for you too.

I had Botox treatment yesterday, how long did it take for you to know if it was working?! I had bacterial meningitis in 2016 and have had a constant migraine since and really do hope this works

Hi Fiona, firstly I hope you were properly checked (MRI) before starting the botox. The botox takes about 1 week to kick in and it wears off within 2/3 months at the beginning. The longer you do it, the better the results. I am still doing the botox, I literally couldn't live without it now. Last time I was suppose to have it done in December but it was moved to February because of the strikes, the result was very clear, I spent between December and February in agony, my pattern returned, migraine for 3 days, 2 days on hangover state recovering from intensive pain and back full on again. It does work, but you must be certain that it is a migraine and not an injury or another condition, then just relax and allow it to work. The first time I had botox, I still got 4 or 5 migraines between the 3 months, the second time that reduced to 2 or 3 and after that, I only get 1 a month caused by hormonal cycle, I'm 43 and I'm having troubles with the hormones.

I hope you feel better and find your peace, migraines are horrible.

Okay thank you

Hi, my daughter tried Botox on May 30th and so far she is immensly impressed with the results. It seems to have made a tremendous difference to all aspects of her life, including work. I don't know if she has come off her other meds yet ( such as, amongst other things, an antiepileptic and an SSRI) but i have not heard her so upbeat and positive for three whole years. The only unpleasant side effect she reported was a drooping eye lid that started two weeks after the injection, now gone. So that's one story for you.

All the very best, G.

Thank you for replies, when I have migraines that last up to 10 days and nothing I take gets rid of them, I become tolerant very quickly to medication. I have waited year for this referral appointment to go through from the doctors And I cannot wait to try Botox and stop taking tablets.

I am going for Botox also on Thursday (June 28th), praying to have results like those above mentioned. Good luck to you also :)

Just had my third round of Botox and continue to take 100 mg of Topramax at night. Has made a huge difference in my life as far as relieving the worst of the daily pain. Still have the dull ache in the base of my skull to contend with. Working with a physical therapist on neck issues including a few bulging discs that could be contributing to the pain. Have also found Frankincense oil (mentioned on this site) to be of great value value) when taken used at the onset of the pain. Just a drop on your thumb applied to the roof of your mouth. Tastes awfully bitter but often does the trick. Hopes this helps! Best of luck to you.

Do u find any memory issues with the Topamax ?

Yes, in that I have problems trying to recall the word that I want to use in a sentence. Can be rather aggravating. Cannot say I feel as sharp mentally as normal but also feel like I don’t really have a choice. If I discontinue the Topramax, I risk the onset of the major migraines. Those are now down to a few per month.

I was just diagnosed with cognitive memory impairment. I have taken Topamax over 20 years.

I have only had one treatment and I'm contemplating whether to get another one or not. My eyebrows and eyelids drooped too much! I previously had my eyebrows tattooed which were beautiful. So I was disappointed when they drooped they still have not recovered and it has been almost 3 months. I felt the first month did help me although they say there will be probably no help in the first month.

I have notice that about words and I take topamax, I want to it back and cut back but my migraine are so bad...

Its not just words, its your all short temp memory. The effects of the topamax are very damaging, when I realized it, it was too late. I'm still not able to do maths in my head which I was, I find it extremely hard to read a paragraph and actually take it in, I have to read it twice or 3 tines before it goes in. I wasn't like this before the topamax. For anyone on topamax, pls stop it, there are better options such as botox and natural supplements.

Great to hear so many people have had relief with botox. I unfortunately have not so just wanted to provide another perspective. It may be because I suffer from daily, chronic migraine (of varying intensities)
