Waiting for Botox to work.....

So many of you know i had my first round of Botox injections on the 29th, its been nearly a week and a half since and im still waiting to notice a difference, I honestly didn't know how painful the injections would be afterwards, it took just over a week before i was able to brush my hair without catching painful areas, The last week my migraines have been very bad, 9-9 1/2 on the pain scale, i was sick three days/nights in a row which is very rare for me no matter how bad the pain can get.Yesterday evening i suddenly went from really bad neck pain to having trouble holding my neck up, im currently sat in bed and my neck still aches, its an effort to sit upright without pillows around my head, although im used to being on a different planet to everyone else after such a bad attack but it seems that i may be suffering a few side effects of the Botox.

I just wanted to fill you all in on how its going, please feel free to comment.

I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. It's certainly put me off considering the Botox injections. I hope you're feeling better soon. Keep us updated

I'm sorry your feeling awful. When I had my first few lot of Botox injections it was very very painful to lay my head on a pillow. Now I only have a few painful areas.

It generally takes me around 2/3weeks depending on my pain level to start with, to notice any difference.

I hope it will get better for you.

The first time I had Botox the first three weeks were very painful, head neck and then back. In fact the first whole first cycle was bad migraine wise too. However the second cycle I was only bad for a week and then my migraines were the best they ever been for at least 2 months. Although I couldn't do any form of gym/fitness/heavy lifting with out setting my neck off for days. I am now almost through the no Botox cycle and my migraines have returned and I have the neck pain swell. I think I'm having migraines in my neck now instead of my head. The consultant agreed this was likely/possible. I presume they will give it to me in October. I can't say for myself whether its been worth it yet so I'm planning to keep going at the moment! Everyone is different so you'll have see how it goes for you. GoodLuck

Hey...I am 8 days into my first round of botox.

I am just starting to feel like my head is heavy and my neck really aches.

I feel really spaced out and my headaches have been worse..I'm hoping to see some improvement soon..I'm due back at work tomorrow but I'm not well enough to go.

Its also very hard for non suffers to understand as work colleagues seem to think I should be feeling a lot better!

Hi, sorry to hear you are having problems/side effects after your first Botox. It prob is a bit early for migraine relief yet. I had Botox and it worked really well for me. No soreness or pain at the injection sites, no side effects at all. I had the first lot and the second but was refused the third as they had worked so well I did not fulfil the criteria!

Hang on in there there is time for it to have an effect!

I have had one session of botox for chronic migraines and this didn't help. I am due to get my second session at the end of October. In the meantime, I paid to go and see a headache specialist in London as I could not take it anymore and he advised me that if one month after having a second session of botox, there is not relief, then it will not work. While I was there he gave me great occipital nerve injections, which on that day helped my headaches and again the next day, however, today they feel a bit more back to the way they were prior to the injections, although it is still early days and if there is no relief after 7-10 days, then this method will not work for me.

I have have headaches/migraines for the last 8 years and have them 24/7 now and have been signed off work for the last 12 weeks. I have tried various medications, acupuncture, physio, oxygen, oesteopath, anti inflammatory diet, vitamins, feverfew etc and nothing has worked. I was recently on 900mg of Gabapentin which my GP and neurologist seemed to think was a great drug and this did not help me. The specialist who I saw in London said that Gabapentin would not work for chronic migraines.

I feel shocking for 2 weeks or so. Like having food poisoning with increased migraines, neck, jaw, shoulder and back pain i. But, when it fully kicks in its so worth it xxx

I had similar neck pain when I tried Botox. I was desperate for relief from migraine pain, but was unwilling to do it again! Fortunately one of my sisters discovered the MTHFR gene variant in our family! It's resolved most of the suffering we endured from decades of migraines.
