Hello, my name is Dave.

My story started when I was in work and began getting dizzy spells to the point I had to sit on the floor. I'm a care assistant so it was easy for my hospital to give me the once over.

* MRI - Normal

* Blood Pressure - not normal (214/102)

* Stroke Check and Blood Analysis - Normal

Baffled? Yes. Surprised? No. Both parents suffer high BP so odds on that I was going to suffer too.

I approached my GP, who had a report of the results and then opted for me to try Propanalol 40mg a day. I starter dose, but works for me. I took them for a few months and all the symptoms seemed to ease off. However, I don't want to become reliant on medicine and decided to ween myself off them by asking for smaller dose tablets of 10mg and reducing the dose per week. I finished that regime and was Propanalol free!

However, after a few weeks I started experiencing Ocular Migs again. They are frightening to say the least. The blindness really freaks me out and those zig-zags are entertaining for all of five minutes. Just glad my sight returns.

Anyway, thanks for letting me join up.

Dave

Davver After being Propranolol free, how is your BP now? 214/102 is alarmingly high, it has to come down. Giving up consuming salty food all together helps to reduce blood pressure. Of course it is not easy to do that, so perhaps aim not to eat more than half a teaspoonful per day and must not exceed 1 teaspoonful. You probably already know it - but still writing it.

Regarding migraine, as you probably know - beta blocker such as Propranolol is not the only option for migraine prevention. See if you can arrange a migraine specialist in your hospital directly (as you work there), because going via GP will probably take a year to see a specialist in NHS !!
