Is it neurostimulators your talking about? There are a few diff operation options?

Basically, botox can paralyse muscles (as well as block neurotransmitter such as acetylcholine). The muscle (corrugator) that helps you 'frowning' can often pinch the trigeminal nerves which triggers migraine. So if paralysing corrugator muscle through botox reduces headache, why not permanently remove it? The decision then will be taken by the doctor and the patient after consultation.

** Remember, corrugator muscles are there for reasons, such as - it has protective function for the eyes from the glare of the sun and bright lights. Removal of corrugator muscles mean you no longer can perform these - hence some neurologists are against this procedure. But in the end, if the benefits outweigh the risks - why not?

Similar process may be performed in other parts such as : upper part of the neck, somewhere on the temple or occasionally even around nose.

Yes I think so not sure what it's called.i have had Botox that worked really well so now I have booked to go ahead with surgery in June. The op involves removing muscle above eyes and clearing area around nerve around back of neck

Not at the moment.yo can get Botox on Nhs sometimes but they would not give to me so I went private.you have to go through Botox treatment first before you would be considered for surgery and that's only if Botox works for you.worth an ask though when you see your consultant.good luck x

Hi I had surgery in 2011 with a German surgeon ( muehlberger)

I still got frequent migraines with the symptoms ( tired / dizzy etc) but almost no pain.

Since then I have followed the Stanton migraine protocol which you can find on Facebook and feel MUCH better . The only bad ones now are ovulation / menstrual ( but these only last a day where as before it would be five! ) ( Facebook page is 'migraine sufferers who want to be cured')

I used to be in continuous pain so although I'm not completely migraine free I am now living my life .

Any questions please ask

Good luck

Hi ,glad your doing so well.Im not looking forward to surgery but need to do something.

botox for me was like a dream come true ,migraine free for 6 weeks, couldn't believe it.got a few small headaches but went with 1paracetomol.

Dr did tell me I may still get a few occasional migraines but will put up with that if there mostly gone.It will be nice just to not takes so many pills daily and be drugged up all the time.

I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that it all goes well as really nervous :)

Since Botox has worked so well, I think you should not worry too much - you will be fine :-)

If Botox works then surgery should too , but guess you know that already! I was still getting migraines even with the Botox so think mine were also good related.

I was extremely nervous but my surgeon was fully competent and did not butcher my face ( which was a real worry ) so try not to let it bother you .

I hope it is a huge success for you 😁

What's the cost of surgery

SP17 profile image
SP17 in reply to ronano

Hi first you have to have Botox which cost £350 for neck and forehead one side .temples are same price but didn't need those .Surgery cost depends on how many sites you need doing ,one side neck and head classed as one site and that's £3500.Its very expensive but when you way up Botox got a year every month like I would need that's nearly £5000 so to me worth it hopefully .

Where are you having the surgery done? Is it in a UK hospital?

No unfortunately have to go to Berlin as stopped doing op in London

Just had the second part of the surgery in Berlin, on my neck. The first part removing the muscle over the forehead was not greatly successful. Feeling pretty good at the moment but time will tell. I had do something and if this works , I would pay twice as much. The discomfort is not so bad. Good luck if you suffer regularly it had to be worth a shot. This work is not possible on the N.H. S and the Germans are forward thinking.

Really hope it works for you.Dr I'm using is doing both sides of my forehead and my neck at the same time so really hoping it will work.botox in these areas has been life changing .migraine free for 6 weeks .feeling nervous but hopeful

Hi, I've just seen your post about the surgery. I too was considering this surgery following 2 x Botox tests... is it dr muhlburger you are seeing & surgery in Berlin?? If so, if you ask they will put you in touch with a patient who will answer all your questions about the whole process, recovery where to stay when in Germany... anything and everything... it was really useful for me. However I've decided not to go ahead at the moment. Wish you all the luck with your surgery though and hope it works for you.

Hi just an update.had surgery last Monday, doing well, very swollen eyes and small amount of back ache from sitting awkward but no headaches since Wednesday which is amazing .swelling will take at least two weeks to go down mostly but up to 8 weeks for full effects.feel tired but great.surgeon was amazing.whole process straight forward so far so good :)

Hi , yes I saw Dr meulberger and the surgery is in Berlin.my surgery booked for 12/6/17 .changed my mind about 50 times lol but I know it will be worth it.(fingers crossed). I'm more worried about getting there and back I think .if surgery was in London I would have jumped straight in but it is what it is so just going go go for it. When I had Botox I felt so good that I said to my husband I don't need surgery my heads better but as soon as it ran out I was in so much pain I just thought I got to do this .Sorry o hear you changed your mind ,will keep you posted how mine goes and you never know in the future you might decide it's for you :)

Good luck for the 12/6/17, how long do you need to stay in Berlin? I assume this is all extra cost as well
