Hi I don't know if I should be asking this so early in the treatment but I will do anyway.I was started on Verapamil yesterday, low dose to start with and building up to a prophylactic dose. Has anyone any experience of this drug. Thanks elfie

I took verapamil years ago, it worked well for some reason my neurologist recce ended a short coutse to be repeated when things hit bad. However wee can't remember the dosage and he Wong prescribe it again.

I took Verapamil for a short time but had to stop after a few weeks. In my case the effective dose lowered my blood pressure to the point where I was passing out. But don't be disheartened, I had low blood pressure to begin with and these prophylactic drugs affect everyone differently. Hope the treatment works for you.

Hi thanks for answering, I'm only taking 40mg this week and then gradually up to 120mg. I take it at night because the neurologist said it might make me feel lightheaded.so I'll see how it goes, can't say I'm happy about taking tablets like that, I've got to 64without needing anything and suddenly find myself injecting heparin twice daily and having to take all sorts of messages. Thank you again, best wishes elfie

Hi Elfie I took verapamil for a heart condition but I also suffer with three to six migraines a week. I noticed no difference to my migraines when I started and during the time I took it. I hope it gives you a better and more successful effect. I am due to start beta blockers. I hope the med work. Punsipu.

I have had these migraines for 16 years now. As I take so many tabs to prevent them, the generally aren't as fierce as they u§ed to be. They can still knock me off my feet now and again. Normally they are very severe headaches with nausea, left sided face numbness, light sensitivity and stabbing pain in my left eye. I can live with that!!! Too stubborn to let that get me down!!!! Much better than before.

Sorry I've taken so long to reply Elfie, I'm a bit of a technophobe and haven't quite mastered my phone. I am sorry that your migraines are so vicious, mine used to be but like I said, all the drugs I take have softened them. I have just had a two day migraine and I know that it will be back tomorrow as they usually go for three days. Do you take gabapentine? I found it helps me a lot. I really hope your migraines ease. Best wishes

Hi there, thanks for your comment. I've stopped the verapamil now, it did'nt help at all , infact ,it made it worse so the nurse said i should stop it. There you go ,i'm not sure that anything helps ,because most drugs just prolong the migraines .well thats my view for what its worth ha ha .hope you are ok , im going to the doc. This pm to have my hormone levels checked , i came off the hrt. Patches 3yrs. Ago and im having hot flushes ,so it might have something to do with that. All the best to you elfie
