Hello, can you please share how you take propranolol? I was advised to take 3x a day, but I am reading on forums that people take it twice or even only once a day. Does anybody knows the specifics of this? Thank you!

Hi Kris,

it depends on the dose of each tablet and the overall daily dose you need to take. Also it depends on whether you take tablets or capsules. I used to take 40mg a day, which was only one tablet. Then I was increased to 80mg a day, which meant two tablets a day, one morning and one in the afternoon. This is because the tablets don't have a sustained release, so you will have to take them multiple times a day to keep the medication level relatively steady.

Now I am at 160mg a day and I take one capsule in the morning. The capsule offers a sustained release of the medication over the 24h period, so I only need to take it once.

In any case: take the medication as your doctor told you! If you're unsure, call them up and double check. This is a serious medication and you should not experiment with it. You have to be very careful and take them as prescribed, because it can have serious health risks if you don't take them regularly.

I take 1 in the morning and 1 before bed. They have really helped me.
