3 day migraines

Just wondering if anyone experiences the following type of migraine and how to deal with them, as multiple doctors have not been able to help: they last for three days (if they are bad enough I just sleep), I can tell when they are coming (and can sometimes prevent them or at least put them off with aspirin), often get nausea, seem to get pain in my ears as well. Doesn’t affect my appetite, nor do I become sensitive to light and sound like normal migraines. Sometimes they seem to be timed with stress/hormonal changes but they also happen randomly (like when I’m on holidays). Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Have you been referred to a neurologist? There are a number of migraine medications that may help. From the reading I've done on migraines there's one called a hormonal migraine which women suffer from.

In my late teens I had what I call a 'bog standard' migraine. It lasted 3 days, I would sleep or bang my head off the bathroom tiles. I now suffer chronic migraine with aura. The change in my migraines got me researching the subject. And there is a lot. So although I know more than I did, I'm really only an expert on my migraines.

Could be worthwhile checking some info, that could at least help you & you GP find an appropriate treatment. There's a link below, I hope it's useful. Also check out: migraineworldsummit.com

Feel better.

You need a GP to prescribe you abortive medicine for the attacks which would be triptans and if you get them often enough a preventative medicine. What you describe are typical migraines I'm surprised the doctors haven't already given you these meds?

Hi

Im sorry i have a different type of migraine but what ive learnt is there is so much information out there! I have been told by a neurologist that migraines can be influenced by hormonal changes! As migraines are very individual its trying different things to see what works for you being a combination including food ice packs gives me short term relief but others heat helps and medication! Good luck but your not alone

I've had these for 11 years now. Very similar to yours but can also escalate quickly and get to out of control/ to vomiting stage, do have loss of appetite, can have aura, also shivery, pale, and nose running, and malcoordination/weakness.

My recent (tentative) improvements are related to a herbal anti inflammatory/anti platelet taken twice daily (can't take aspirin or NSAIDs) and acupuncture. The worry is not being able to afford or access these in future.

I got it down to weekly from daily by giving up gluten.

My own sense is that when this happens, yes, it is migraine, but something else is triggering and worsening it, probably hormones, thyroid, B12 deficiency, other auto immune disorder, histamine sensitivity etc. But hard to get to the bottom of it and even harder to find a doctor who will go there with you.

Hi. Like you I get migraines that don't fall into the same pattern of symptom. My current episode has been every day for 11 months. I usually don't feel sick or the light doesn't effect it or lying down in a dark room doesn't make it any better.

My head hurts all over and I have pain/pressure in my ears. My GP has been useless, I've just paid to see a neurologist as I'm so desperate to be headache free. I'm trying anti-sickness and soluable aspirin. Also Vit B2. Hopefully botox next time I see her.

Hi Ruby, you say you don't often feel sick but they have prescribed you anti-sickness tabs, you prob don't need that med? I was told to take 75mg soluble aspirin each morning, I think that has helped with not getting aura with my headaches now. If you have been suffering for 11 months, surely they need to prescribe you a preventative? B2 Vit is good but a B complex might be better inc Magnesium? All the best x

Thanks, I've tried preventatives in the past and they either don't help or help for a short time. anti sickeness with soluable aspirin, the anti-sickness helps the medication absorb quicker.
