My migraines are horrendous, I am under the care of two Consultants and I’m waiting to take the new drug Amjovy. I wonder3d if anyone can recommend a hypnosis app for anxiety ( prevent it and deal with it ).I know there is a link between anxiety and migraines. Can anyone share views on any anti anxiety medication relating to migraines, CBT, or hypnosis apps. Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi, I have chronic anxiety and chronic migraines. I've had various doctors tell me hypnosis won't work on me and I've tried it once (with a therapist) but it didn't work. I had CBT but that didnt work either. I found buddhist mindfullness the most helpful and it is those techniques I use to stop myself having panic attacks. I've been on a few anti-depressants over the years but ultimately non of them were that effective for anxiety for me. I'm on Amitriptyline for sleep as sleep seems to be the ultimate link btn my anxiety and mental wellbeing. Ajovy has been brilliant for me though!

Hi, I was a psychotherapist before I retired...different therapeutic approaches suit different people and their situations. CBT can work really well if it suits you and if it is provided by an experienced, well trained therapist. I would suggest you try it but get a therapist from the ABCT register . Some CBT theapists are also trained in mindfulness which is also very helpful and gives you some control over your mind. The other thing which is really helpful is learning how to breathe from your diaphragm instead of high up in your chest, which is possibly what you are doing too much of. When we breathe high up in our chest the brain gets the message that we are in danger, needing to run away, and produces adrenaline, which becomes a vicious cycle. I think the NHS anxiety and depression website is good and also some of the apps which help you relax and slow down and deepen your breathing.

There are also some good self help books about. One I think is good, and you can just dip into relevant chapters, is Robert Leahy Beat the Blues before They Beat You.

Finally diet makes a difference - Im sure you are aware, eg caffeine intake and sugar highs and lows.

All best wishes to you...
