Headaches on the daily..

Blacksunflower77 profile image

I have these unbearable headaches and migraines all the time. I take gabapentin, topomax and emgality infections and ibuprofen sometimes and still have these ridiculous headaches. I cannot find any relief. I have a neurology appointment but I have to wait 5 months to get in to see the doctor. Any suggestions as to what else I can do to relieve these headaches in the meantime? Ice packs and heating pads do not help all the time either grrr...please help!

Hi, you're on so many meds I'm not sure how many more your body could take? Some of us will have migraine regardless of any attempts to prevent them. I've had chronic migraines for over 30 years, obviously had a lot of meds in that time, still have have chronic migraines though sadly. Sorry not what you wanted to hear! The CGRPs actually made my migraines worse, and they're all the migraine world talks about these days. Of course there are many more options but none of them would be quick, weaning off Gabapentin can be unpleasant and should be done slowly. I presume you're not taking ibuprofen more than 6-8 days a month or you could be having rebound headaches?

i have a neurologist in NY who’s treating my debilitating chronic migraines with blood pressure medication and nurtec. It’s made a huge difference but I still get migraines like when I’m driving or when I’m about to get my period and unfinished just have to ride those out. I also helped myself get by not taking Tylenol or ibuprofen

hi Blacksunflower77,

I also experience headaches and migraines every day nonstop, so I truly feel for you.

I currently take 300mg of gabapentin, 900mg aspirin and for me this does not even touch the headaches. My neurologist and dr have said that when on a bad day you take the maximum dosage, but every day is a bad day. So I take the max on a daily basis, I’m waiting for the Botox injections and see if that helps.

From my experience with gabapentin and my view not good but everyone is different.

I’m sorry if this did not help.

I would suggest keeping a daily log of the headaches, which I assume your doing, but also do the same for foods, this includes gluten free etc.

Thank you all for your helpful comments. It may never be what someone wants to hear but needs to hear sometimes! 🙂

I'm a bit like you, in that I've tried virtually everything under the sun to get relief. Currently I'm trying high dose magnesium and after a few weeks I'm starting to notice a difference in pain intensity and duration, not just a bit, but quite a lot. Such as a few hours of the worst pain ( but not as painful as previously) followed by more of a dull dizziness for a day. This is a big improvement on 4 days of intensive pain and sickness, so I'm happily persevering. I don't know if you've tried anything like this, but if not, it's worth a try.

I take about 600mg of a magnesium mix ( citrate/glycinate/malate) in a couple of doses a day.

Good luck.
