I’ve just been diagnosed with Haemochromatosis. A condition where there is iron overload. I need venesection to remove the iron. Has anyone else experienced this?

Haemochromatosis

I've just been diagnosed with this and I am waiting to see the haemotologist. I assume venesection if it comes to out is like just giving blood?
I have this condition, consultant told me my level is below that needing Venesection. Informed me that folic acid levels low, so need supplement. Advised to drink more water, checking for rare genetic disorder. Cautioned about alcohol - which is modest.
Thanks. I tested positive for a/the genetic condition - gene C282Y. And was pointed at these 2 NHS sites...
Yes I’m due for venesection on Tuesday. I’m very nervous to be honest, even though I work in blood bank. I just can’t believe I’ve inherited this disorder, it would explain my late onset diabetes and finger inflammation. All fits now.
Hi Thomas, i have Haemachromatosis. I have managed it by drinking tea. I drink around six to ten cups per day, standard tea bags. I have milk in mine, but black would likely be better. The tannins in the tea obstruct iron uptake from your gut. My ferratin levels have come down from 800 plus, to around 400 and stable since starting this four years ago. I have not needed a letting since.
That’s great news. I am a tea drinker, so that will help. I hate venesections, had my third yesterday. Didn’t feel well afterwards.
