Currently suffering from some aggravated Achilles tendonitis, but normally I go for a 30-40 min run 2-3 times a week, with parkrun every fortnight. Ballroom dancing with Mrs Omniscient which I am not keen on, but it's something else to do with my wife, so that's good. Then gym, let's say about 6 times a month to do weights and the usual machine things.. The only thing I do to retain flexibility is the dancing. That is also a huge exercise for the brain, The other thing I do to keep the brain active (apart from writing these obv) is I'm trying to learn Latin, utterly pointless but a good brain challenge.

The Romans managed it - and you're quite as intelligent as they were!! Just remember your deponent and semi-deponent verbs....

I never did Latin at school, hence the challenge, but I did hear that a lot of them had slaves to read and write for them. bona valetudo tibi

I recall being told that as a general rule, the Romans relied on the Greeks for the intellectual side of life. Up to 'O' level, Latin was a 'core' subject at my school, but although I quite enjoyed it, I wasn't a good scholar - and 55 years later I can now only recall a few snippets. I dabbled with 'Mandarin' Chinese about 20 years ago - and the oriental languages are a true nightmare.....LOL!!!

What study method are you following? On-line learning? As with any any leisure activity, have fun and enjoy yourself, and I'm sure you will find it to be time well spent.

Thank you for your kind good health wishes! Et tu, meus amicus.

Cheers for now!!

I've had a go at Japanese as I used to work for a Japanese company. You can get so far but then you need to absorb the writing. The Latin is by way of Lingua Latina, a system entirely in Latin. I've tried all the other methods (amo amas amat...)

My attempt to speak a little Chinese was prompted by meeting a Chinese girl whilst on holiday in the PRC in 2002. I never really attempted to get to grips with the characters - I don't have enough years left to me now, I fear. Thanks very much indeed for sharing the learning method which you're using.

I bought a copy of the textbook we used at school 'The Approach to Latin' Parts 1 and 2. . Very much grammar-based with the declensions and conjugations laid out in tabular form. It's still in use, I believe. Happy days??

Best for now.

Anecdote: in a Chinese regional airport one of the shop workers comes over to me and says do I speak English? Of course says I. She's learning English and asks me to explain a couple of words (incremental was one). Of course they need to learn our character set too. So she says do I speak any other languages , I reply no. Then she says, Dont I even speak 'French' English? No :-)

quod est magnum responsum.

From Google translate. But I think it is correct trying to remember my schoolboy Latin!

Well I run at least 5k every other day, do a little walking, and stretch.

nothing really. I’m too old for all that malarkey 😂

In all seriousness, I will walk the dog every day. Takes about 30mins+ around th block and through the cemetery. I meditate once a day for about 30 mins or a bit less. Depends on how long the relaxation recordings last.

I don’t bother so much with my appearance. As long as I’m clean and tidy, except for the hair. My sister moans at me for not wetting my comb before I come my hair. She hates it when my sticks up all over the place. I’m not bother. It’s nature.

My routine is getting out of bed each day and hoping the day is good health wise, I go to bathroom freshen up, go down stairs, have a coffee take my meds and wait to see how my body will treat me today, some days are good some days not so good

Comrade what instantly came to mind in reading this question is; how very thankful and blessed I am. Both my mate and I sleep well always after I perform a little pleasure for him. He showers and I brush my teeth then off to sleep. He wakes early before me and gets his run in, then gets back and starts coffee and usually toast and fruit for our breakfast then comes in to awaken me on his knees by the bedside and gives me some incredible insatiable kissing that doesn’t actually encourage me to get out of bed but to pull him back to bed instead. He’s more fit and stronger so I wouldn’t win that. We most always follow this ritual to begin our day. Although we’re both retired he own a small business that his son runs but he will from time to time check in on and sometimes encourage his son to meet at our favorite cafe for lunch. I have willingly become the primary housekeeper to free his time up for his drive into the workplace and time with his son and grandkids when not here at the house. We have a four day per month professional housekeeper come in for detail work, a bonus reason for my moving in with him because I couldn’t afford that luxury. After breakfast and before anything else it’s out the door for a long walk with the dog then back to complete my house tasks. Later the dog and I run any needed errands and another walk while out and about. Because the cafe we frequent is dog friendly I almost always stop in with him rather or not I’m meeting with my mate or not. It’s a chance for catch up on conversation with others that aren’t the two of us. It’s also a bit self amusing for me to appreciate the stash of ladies that are typically present and almost never fail to flirt unbeknownst of my change of sexual proclivity. They get so much from it that I wouldn’t dare tell them of their waste of time. Mine has become a very tame and mundane life but there is so much peace in it. Questions just like this one you’ve asked serves to renew my appreciation for what my Lord has afforded me and indeed all of us in still living. Thank you OneJoker

PS. I do still get excited by the fare sex 😁 but a bit depressed ☹️ as well in knowing I can’t be what I once was or perform as I once did. I hope I’m not crying in anyones 🍻 beer.

If you can afford it, get shoes from a professional running store (ie Fleet Feet). They have shoes for walkers, runners and everything in between. As I have aged, I have learned the importance of protecting my feet. Find a place you enjoy and walk. I promise you will feel better.
