Today marks 12 weeks since I was circumcised. While there were a few bumps along the journey, I have no regrets. It needed done, and I am so glad that it is now done. As I said in a previous post, the sever phimosis was really affecting my day to day life, and was having a mental affect too. Since getting the all clear, I have returned to the gym, and now no longer fear the showers. I can stand at urinals and not worry, erections no longer feel tight and uncomfortable.
There are some things I wish I had of known before the operation so that I could be prepared for them:
1 - When I went for the operation, my pubes were shaved. If I had of known, I would have come prepared, but the surgeon said it is better they do it to avoid scratches and cuts. Around day three as they started to grow again, it felt like there was a hedgehog around my penis. After a couple of days it got easier.
2 - The swelling was pretty bad, and everything looked very unsightly for a few weeks. But once the swelling went down, it looks good.
3 - Night time erections are a killer! But once the stitches came away, that pain stopped.
4 - The discharge from the wound looks scary!
5 - I had to learn to urinate standing up again. For the first number of weeks, if I stood to urinate, it was like a sprinkler going off! There was less control of the direction than before I was cut (and it was really bad before). But as the swelling went down, and with practise, all is good now!
6 - All advice is to wear loose clothing. Which is great for the first few days and helps get used to the sensitivity. But once I returned to work, tight undies was the order! They help hold everything in place. I didn't own any as I always wore loose boxers. So I had to order some online, as I couldn't walk properly without holding my trackies away from the penis! Jeans were a no no for about a month as the material was to hard against the cut!
7 - It will take time! Though it was done under local and I was home in a few hours, the minor operation, has major impact on life!
These are just a few of my thoughts. Now 12 weeks on I am loving being cut and wish I had of got it done when I was much younger. If I am ever blessed with a Son, he will be done as a baby to prevent any chance of having to go through this all!
