ZSR circumcision - 18 days, swelling and staples not falling off

Hi guys,

I had my circumcision 18 days ago using the ZSR technique (staples). Everything went well, with no complications, however ever since I stopped dressing with gauze, the skin between the incision line and the line of the glans has become swollen, just like a donut ring (about 8 millimetres in height).

I talked to my surgeon and he said it is normal, and that I can continue applying pressure using a gauze and medical tape. I did that and in 24 hours the swelling subsided, but as soon as I drop the dressing, the swelling comes back in a few hours. Is it normal? Should I continue applying the dressing or should I leave the penis free of dressing?

Also, the staples have not fallen off - not even one; more so, I am concerned by the fact that around 3 or 4 staples seem to have been buried within the skin, as they cannot be seen at all (but I do feel them when touching the skin) - the incision line is looking very good, almost healed, but I am really concerned about those buried staples - should I talk to the doctor? Will they eventually fall off on their own, if they are buried under the skin?

Thank you!

Most commonly ZSR will cause swelling upto 2-3 weeks. So this is normal. If all incision is sealed, you may skip applying bandages.

In case you have stitches get advised whether those will be dissoluble or they need to be remove or they will fall on its own. So talk to doc.

I've had the same circumcision a month ago.Swelling is common post circumcision. Although I only had swelling for 6-7 days.

About staples, i experienced the same thing. It seemed like the pins have pierced the skin a little while coming out. You might see scab (dried blood) around the incesion line. It is all normal.

For me the ring didn't fall out on its own but came above the surface after 13 days. My doctor gently pulled it out when I went for a weekly check up. It felt like ripping out a bandage.

In some cases it might take upto 3-4 weeks for the ring to come out.

Hope this helps!
