I’m a chronic overthinker / worrier / panicker and I was so worried in the run up to my circumcision on Friday 12th March. Bit the bullet and got it done - I had phimosis and had never been able to retract my foreskin behind the glans in all 25 years of my life. Friday was the first time I had ever seen the head of my penis in full!
I’m still googling and worrying quite a lot with some questions and I was wondering if any of you guys would be able to help me out with any answers / reassurance? It would be much appreciated
1) I’ve got a lot of swelling and it feels tight around the ridge of the glans. My penis looks like it’s halved in length and doubled in girth! This worried me and so I saw the surgeon yesterday (day 3 post op) and he said it’s totally fine. When I lie / sit down the skin covers part of my glans. Is this normal? I read online that the swelling worsens for the first few days, and then begins to get better, but mine is still very swollen.
2) when can I resume activity like walking to the shops? I’m still walking around my flat through the day - the pain is not as bad as I thought it would be.
3) I have not had a single erection since... this is worrying me the most. I was so worried about waking up in the middle of the night with erection pain, but since the op I don’t think I’ve had one single erection. Is this normal? I’m worried that the surgery has inflicted ED or something. So many guys seem to have problems with controlling erections after circumcision, but I don’t seem to get them! I thought the sensitivity of walking would give me them but it just hasn’t so far.
4) when can I drink alcohol again? I stopped one week pre-op, so it’s been a walk and a half now. I’d like to treat myself with a bottle of wine, but at the same time am more than happy to abstain if it’s going to help with my recovery process.
Any advice to put my mind at ease would be much appreciated I was going to post pictures but I’m not sure you’re allowed to on here?

1. You’re on day 4 you’re still very early in postop so your swelling sounds normal. Give it like a week or more, it’ll get better. Try wear briefs and keep it facing upwards to help with lymph drainage and the like.
2. Pretty sure you can walk to the shops as often as you like already. Just stay clear of rigorous exercise for a while longer though.
3. Chat to your doctor, we’re all different so it might just be the swelling that’s preventing erections in your case.
4. I don’t drink so maybe someone else or your doctor will have an answer for you. 😅
1. 4 days too early to see any changes. Recovery is long road, you are still gonna see things get worst before they get better. It's a long road, the penis has gone through trauma.
2. Walking to the shops, you can but id keep them brief or order in groceries.
3. First couple of days no erections. Then 6 days in I've been getting a load since. So hard to control. Your erections will start, give it a couple days.
4. I only drinks socially, but personally I'm not gonna drink to aid healing and don't want my urine to be too acidic or alcoholic, wanna give recovery the best chance.
It's great you are in contact with your surgeon, keep him informed if you are worried.
You're not quite the over thinker you think you are, you made the decision and went ahead with it. Stop worrying about being a worrier! All sounds normal to me, exactly as I was. Sure you can go to the shops now. Just googled about the alcohol and it says 5 days after surgery. Enjoy, celebrate and congratulate yourself.
