I've had a tight foreskin for nearly 5 years now. Since my last son was born. It's got to the point it splits and bleeds everytime I go for a wee.
I've been to see a GP but they say I would need to lower my BMI to atleast 30 before I could have an operation. That would be nearly 6stone for me to lose.
I don't want to drink liquid as it's so painful to relieve myself. What can I do, I feel I need to resort to self help and try to find a kit on ebay or something... I'm so desperate!
Has your GP told you why you need to lose that amount of weight before you can refer you to an urologist?
The GP told me I would be referred straight away and would receive a letter to tell me how to book online myself. After waiting 2 weeks with no response I called the doctors surgery and was told I passed funding, but due to my weight they cant go ahead with the referral until I try to lose weight for atleast 6 months. I really can't wait that long, I've put off going to the doctors for years out of embarrassment, stupidly I know and I'm at breaking point. I was in tears to my wife after I called them as I really thought I was getting it sorted at last. I'm 6foot 2 and weight 20stone, I know I need to lose weight but I've teing that since I was a kid.
Circumcisions can usually be done by local anaesthetic so I cannot see what problem your weight might be causing. I think that you need to go see your GP and get an explanation.
My understanding is that ADULT circumcisions are usually performed under GENERAL anaesthetic, in which case weight could be a risk factor. However, infant circumcisions are done under LOCAL anaesthetic because infants cannot tolerate general anaesthetic.
Not as black and white as you believe. From the NHS website:
“You'll usually either have a general anaesthetic, which means you'll be unconscious throughout the procedure, or a local anaesthetic injection, which will numb your penis and the surrounding area.
In some cases, a spinal anaesthetic, where you're unable to feel anything below your waist, will be used.”

The British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) says the following
(Published: June 2017 Leaflet No: 16/077)
“We usually carry out the procedure under a general anaesthetic, but local or spinal anaesthetic may be used instead. We use local anaesthetic nerve blocks, regardless of the type of anaesthetic, to provide post-operative pain relief.”
All methods are used. That was a June 2017 leaflet. And I copied current NHS guidance. Even that old leaflet you quoted does not say that GA is the only way forward - as the NHS guidance indicated.

The British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) leaflet published in 2017 is, in fact, still current and says ”We usually carry out the procedure under a general anesthetic.” While other methods may be used for adult circumcision, general anaesthetic is what is usually used, not local, which is contrary to the what the first post said.
Read what the NHS website says: “usually done by either....”. It does not say usually done by GA alone. All I have read indicates a degree of choice.
The original response was “Circumcisions are usually done by local anaesthetic.” That simply is not true.
I was reporting comments I had seen on here but have amended my comment to totally coincide with current NHS guidance.

Why’s everyone arguing about this and trying to prove they’re right?
Just for the record, prior to my NHS op my GP gave me the choice at referral. I initially assumed it would be a local as my frenulum procedure had been years before. He looked at me and said “You don’t really want to be awake while they do it do ya?” After a moment’s thought I agreed and I’m pleased I did so.
Interestingly, when I came to from my circumcision I noticed I’d leaked a lot of ‘pre-cum’ and am convinced they induced an erection during surgery to aid accuracy. If so, I doubt that would’ve been done under a local.
You can usually choose yourself. I had a local anesthetic.
If it keeps splitting then micro scarring will occur and the skin can become tighter. Try sex with a condom to see if that helps keep the skin secure. And I’m sure if you lower your BMI then he will refer you, although they can perform circumcision under spinal anaesthetic so you’re numb from the waist down. Did he not give you any ointments to loosen the skin? Maybe seek a second opinion too because I saw three doctors over 2 years and tried steroid ointments with no luck before I was finally referred
Sex isnt an option at all and hasn't been for awhile now. He didnt offer any other treatment. I have tried lots of stuff myself but nothing seems to help really. There is scaring the skin has started to feel quite tough.
Ask for an appointment with another GP and tell them you have tried creams etc. and it’s a progressing problem and that it’s effecting your relationship, I’m sure they will refer you. If not then have a look at private treatment but you shouldn’t have to do that
Maybe get 2nd opinion from a different gp and if that fails I would seriously consider going for a Private circumcision at a clinic held by nhs doctors (what I’m doing) you can’t go through life splitting your foreskin every day
Just back from seeing Dr Khan in Luton. Unfortunately he can't help me as the problem is too severe. He's writing to my GP for me so I hope that will get me a referral. If not I really don't know what to do!
The GP seem to be giving me the run around in regards to a second opinion. The soonest they can see me is the 19th which is weeks since I booked.
If there is a case of a severe obesity. There is a risk of buried penis after circumcision and it might be hard to operate, too. When loosing weigh the shaft skin will tighten and could be too short then.
Under general anaesthetic the patient relax too much and his/her belly push his/her lungs too tight to breath. It really is a risky business. I hope every one understand the cost of obesity.
