General anaesthetic or local? If it’s local they’ll squirt some gel down your urethra and wait a few mins to numb then proceed to insert a camera. This is a long tube-like device about the diameter of a standard pencil with a flexible end that can be steered. Some discomfort and feels strange inside your bladder but not painful as I recollect.

However afterwards it will feel like you’re peeing broken glass for a day or two. It really does sting and the first time might even make you feel faint, sorry. Best advice for recovery is counter-intuitive, i.e. drink plenty of water to dilute the strength of your urine so it doesn’t sting so much. Also, the more you urinate, the sooner it becomes comfortable again.

Good luck.
