I was circumcised right before I turned 21 a couple months ago. I had fairly bad phimosis which meant difficulty urinating at times and other discomfort.
Before I scheduled the surgery, I discussed the surgery with my urologist and we talked about what to expect. He told me I would be uncomfortable for a few weeks and I would have swelling that may last for months or could possibly go down much sooner. After 2-3 weeks, my stitches were to dissolve on their own and I could return to normal life after the sensitivity was to subside. At the time, I didn’t even know about the different cuts (high/low, tight/loose etc). However, I think the cut I got is fine now.
I arrived at the pre-op ward of the hospital at 5:30 AM, very very nervous and it showed as they took my blood pressure lol. I was given sanitary wipes to clean myself and the pre-op nurse confirmed all my medical details and told me the medications I was going to be given and how long the procedure was (general anesthesia was given). I was given an IV and then wheeled into the operating theater. I was not nervous then and felt really calm. The anesthetist put a mask over my mouth and told me “count to 5” and after I said 3, I was completely out. I had absolutely no memory beyond that until I woke up in the anesthesia recovery room. I was groggy, but didn’t really feel much pain, it was more of a small ache around my glans that was not bad at all.
Once, I got home, the pain began and it was fairly bad but I was prescribed pain killers which did help. I did not get any erections until day 5. I would say it wasn’t as painful as it was “uncomfortable” or odd feeling. Like I could feel my swollen frenulum stretch and it was unpleasant but not painful. My stitches took awhile to dissolve or fall out. Most were gone by week 3/4 but I had 2 that took until week 5. Make sure to keep your glans moist and clean. Epsom salt baths have helped me. I have used both coconut and bio oil for the scar line and for moisturizing. I’m assuming your foreskin is retractable currently so your glans isn’t hypersensitive. I would expect a week to a few weeks of some hypersensitivity that should subside. Some have suggested wearing tight underwear to keep your penis in place because the “rubbing” sensation on a hypersensitive glans is very uncomfortable.
If you have any other questions, feel free to message me or ask here.
I’m getting mine done in a few weeks. I’m getting a high and tight cut meaning I’m going to keep the majority of the inner foreskin and the scar will be further away from my head. Just the look I prefer and I think keeping more of the inner foreskin means keeping more sensitivity.
Everyone’s different in terms of pain and recovery. I had a second circumcision when I was 20 as I wanted the skin to be as tight as possible. I also had my frenulum removed. I now have no shaft skin movement at all when erect (see my posts for the photos). If you are a grower you will probably need to keep enough skin so it’s a bit loose when flaccid. For the op I had two injections in my penis - these hurt no more than a dentist’s injection. I had no pain at all afterwards and recovery was fine.
