Advice for estrogen vaginal cream

I've been using Estradiol (vaginal estrogen cream) for about a year or so. I've always used the applicator to apply the cream but I'm wondering if I can just smear the cream on with my finger. How many of you ladies apply the cream with your finger? I'm afraid if I don't use the applicator and don't put the cream deep in the vagina then it will not absorb properly. I don't want the pain of vaginal atrophy returning with all the UTI's and burning! I saw a doctor say on You Tube that she stopped telling patients to use their finger because it wasn't getting absorbed enough. I currently use 1 gram three times a week. I really have no idea how much is too much and how much is not enough. Can any of you advise on your experiences? Thank you so much!

I just learned yesterday from my physical therapist (I also have pelvic floor dysfunction) that she recently heard in a menopause workshop that ladies can put one gram of cream on their finger and insert with their finger (3 in. inside) and any left over cream can be placed on the urethra. So, I may give that a try. With me, the applicator hurts because of my pelvic floor muscles being so tight. :(

🙂 Re How much to use

Speak to your GP…not everybody may need to use exactly the same amount..and you will be advised how to use it correctly.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, you would think doctors would know but I've been given bad advice by doctors and I've learned that they don't know everything. It's really the ladies who are using it everyday who know the truth of it. That's why I wanted their advice.

in my opinion most of the cream would be lost en route to it's intended destination without the applicator

I agree with you. That makes sense doesn't it. That's why I've been unsure about the finger method. Just trying to get some opinions out here. :)

Hello

My GP told me that vaginal oestrogen cream should only be used for 6 months. Just thought I’d mention it.

I use the applicator personally.

Best wishes xx

Hi Amazon! I'm not sure why your doctor would tell you that because the vaginal atrophy will come right back if you don't continue the cream. It's my understanding that you have to use it for life. That's what I've read and been told by doctors.
