Hello,Ive always been very exact with my period, but this month, after my regular period, I kept spotting around a week. On day 14 after my first day of my period, I have what it seems my period again but very heavy and it hasn't stop since then. This was accompanied with severe anxiety, mood swings, fogginess, and night sweats. I went to my doctor and she thinks I'm in peri menopause. I'm waiting for my GYN appointment, but I'm very concerned that my period never stopped since Nov 20th. Keep in mind I'm 40 years old.Any advice or similar scenario? I'm freaking out

Hi there I've had this happen too, ask your gp to send you for an ultrasound scan as gynecology waiting lists are long. You might have a fibroid, that is what caused my heavy bleeding along with peri. Now on prostrap injections and they are sorting things out. Have a great day sending big hugs x
Thank you for your response. Out of curiosity, I see many people here saying that they need to go to you GP before going to your Gyno and have long waiting times before getting a referral. Where are you all located? I'm an American and I don't need to wait for my OB GYN appointment for that long or need a referral. However I went to my GP to make sure there isn't another underlying condition. I got my hormones tested, my thyroid, and my blood in General. I'm waiting for results and I have an appointment with my Gyno on Thursday. I'll keep everyone posted. It's a relief that I'm not alone here. Thanks again
🙂Most people in this group ..live in the UK
Our healthcare system (NHS) is very different to the US.. where most healthcare is via private insurance/health plans
Our first ‘port of call’ is a GP…who has the power to decide whether referral for investigation is necessary. It can often be the ‘luck of the draw’ as to whether they take action..and even after a successful referral..waiting lists to see Specialists are generally very long.
Ohh I see. I work for a hospital administrator office, and one of the benefits referred me to this page... From other post I see, I notice that most people here weren't from the states, I just wasn't sure from where. Thank you for the clarification
Spotting could be hormonal but it could also be fibroids or polyps both of which I was diagnosed with due to a similar thing happening to me around a similar age.
It could actually be polyps. When I hit 42 my periods started getting super heavy, like I thought I was dying. Turns out I had tons of polyps that were not previously diagnosed (I hadn't been for an exam in 2 years because of pandemic). I had to get surgery to have them removed. Thankfully no more heavy bleeding but since I'm in the throws of perimenopause my cycle is completely whack.
