perimenopause returning anxiety

Hi there to all fellow sufferers. I was wondering if anyone out there has suffered with anxiety and depression in the past not due to perimenopause. I am 52 and suffered bouts of clinical depression and anxiety on and off for many years. I’ve had the majority of perimenopause symptoms for a few years now and some have really took a toll on me. I’m on 50mg Sertraline a day which over the last two years I’ve managed to cut down on the dosage from 200mg. This last week seemingly out of blue and sudden I’ve been feeling so anxious that I’m really scared I’m going to be back in a really bad place again. I really don’t want to up my medication again as I don’t know if and how long these awful feelings are going to last but at the same time I’m really panicking. I tried hormone replacement therapy a couple years ago but they made my depression a lot worse in fact I was quite suicidal so I really feel like that is not an option for me. I’m also struggling with guilt for feeling this way and feel quite alone. Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read this I would love to hear back from anyone else who has had similar experiences.

Hi yes i had depression and anxiety before perimnopause. I've not tried hrt, and I'm awaiting a second opinion from another gynecologist, as one has said I'm too old, and not a suitable candidate for this medication, I'm only 49. I do hope you get the support you need as it's horrible suffering from depression and anxiety. Sending you a big hug too x❤️

Hi there! I'm suffering the same thing. I'm in perimenopause and I have a lot of anxiety. I'm going to try a topical magnesium lotion and foot soak with magnesium flakes. You might look into that on the internet. I've read that applying magnesium on the skin is more effective than taking it orally and it works faster. Magnesium will calm your nerves and relax your muscles. I also have pelvic floor dysfunction because of the vaginal trauma of menopause (vaginal atrophy, uti's, etc). I now take vaginal estrogen but just the trauma from all that has my pelvic muscles in a constant state of tightness. The tightness has spread to my thighs and abdomen. So, of course, this is very painful and it causes me a lot of anxiety. Anyway, gonna give topical magnesium a shot and see if it helps. Maybe it can help you. :)

Hi thank you for that will be looking into the magnesium. Sounds like you’ve been through more than your fair share thinking of you.
