perimenopause please help

Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I'm nearly 42 and pretty convinced I'm perimenopausal. Can this be detected by having a blood test? My g.p said they just go by symptoms. Has anyone around my age group been prescribed hrt?

Hello mo222,I was only diagnosed peri-menopausal after i had a blood test, i was 53 then. I had various symptoms which were all similar to depression. If i were you I'd go back to your GP to request a blood test.

Good luck 😊

I'm 49 . I'm in the perimenopause & feel depressed most of the time 😞 How do you cope? I'm reluctant to take HRT.

it’s very difficult to diagnose via blood tests as hormones fluctuate through out the day month even week. They generally only do bloods if under 45 or over 50ish. I was 44 when my periods started skipping but doing a lot of reading since then and found I had been having symptoms for quite a while.

Hi mo222,

I am 46 and have been in peri for some time (yes early) and I have been in hell. I have seen every specialist you can imagine and they all say "its hormones" I thought I had heart issues, thyroid, allergy all of it. My gyno finally said 'sounds like'. No real tests to be done but... hang in there. xo

Thanks for your reply, since my post my g.p put me on hrt sandrena gel now 2 months in and have noticed some changes for the better apart from sleep. Still suffering with insomnia, I've tried all sorts. Even though I can be so tired I wake up constantly through the night. X

I have bouts of insomnia too, its the worst. Usually when I have it, I have night sweats too.

Hello,

I don’t think they rely on blood tests during peri menopause as levels fluctuate so much so aren’t reliable so the gp is correct to go by symptoms. I’ve been on hrt since I was 38, I’m 43 now. My levels were checked however as my periods just stopped, all the markers eg LH and FSH were very high and estrogen very low.

Couldn’t be without hrt now. My life changed overnight when my periods stopped.

I hope you got the appropriate help as 42 is young yes but even more important to use hrt for protection of your brain, bones and heart.
