Is this all in my head?

Hi Guys

I’m hoping someone can convince me that I’m not losing the plot and making this up!

I’m 42yrs old. In the last 18 months my cycle has gone from being very regular to being late/early and missing cycles. My mood has also changed, I feel far more irritable, less tolerable and experiencing low moods and anxiety. Sleep has become an issue, hot flushes come and go but not all the time.

I had a hormone blood test a year ago and these were the results. I was advised by the Dr that they were normal but having spoke to a friend who seems to be in the know about this sort of thing she thinks my readings are at the bottom end of the scale.

My dr is making me jump through hoops after hoop to get HRT. The latest being that they want to do a womb biopsy before they will prescribe me anything. I have a 10 month wait on the NHS waiting list for the biopsy. As time goes on my symptoms feel like they are getting worse. Do I just bite the bullet and go private? Or hold on for the NHS?

If anyone can tell me what the below results mean that would be great! Bearing in mind they were a year ago so I probably need to do another test.

Thanks for listening. Any advice would be greatly appreciated x

Hi

I had blood test done by my doctors surgery as I have been suffering peri menopause symptoms. This was after I spoke to a nurse saying I felt awful.

Anyway, to cut a long story short they did a loads of tests and they came back “normal”. I do have an underactive thyroid and Hashimotos, but I monitor this myself, so know it wasn’t this.

Luckily for me, the follow up appointment was with another nurse whom was a similar age to me (44) and she had started symptoms herself so said she would put me on HRT without reviewing my bloods. This helped as before the phone call I made a list of my symptoms, dates of periods and how frequently they were getting.

However, I had a back up plan in case it didn’t go smoothly.

I popped my name on the waiting list to have a consultation with a GP at the Newson clinic.

In fact after having my bloods done with my GP surgery, Louise Newson was on the TV programme “This Morning”’with a phone in on peri menopause and saying bloods are a waste of time during Peri menopause, and how doctors were ignoring symptoms and focusing on bloods only.

Even though I had a prescription for HRT via the NHS, I kept my appointment with the doctor at the Newson clinic. I’m so pleased I did, as they recommended I upped my HRT as the amount advised by the NHS wouldn’t of really helped. They can organise a private prescription and the items delivered to your door, or can write to your GP recommending a prescription of HRT.

I have a private prescription as I was struggling to get HRT at my local chemists despite going to 5 different one.

My advice would be go private and I recommend the Newson Clinic. They listen to your symptoms.

Good luck & best wishes

I agree. They 'get it' and I feel that, thought it's obviously some money to pay out, it's 100% worth it x

Definitely agree that bloods not worth doing. See a menopausal specialist. Louise Newsome 👌

I've never had blood tests for my hormones and I'm on HRT because I insisted my GP give me some. I provided a list of symptoms I was having and said I was fed up of them just managing the individual symptoms. Anxiety, Night Sweats, twitchy legs, brain fog, low mood etc. I WANT TO TRY HRT I said. Tell them you cannot wait for further tests, you need help now. After 4 months I felt a little better but not quite myself still, so I went back and insisted on an increased dose and I'm now feeling much better. I never physically saw a doctor/nurse, this was all done by phone consultations. Be firm, you know your body. I'm late 40s now, I wish I'd done something sooner as the night sweats started in my early 40's. Good luck
