had bacterial meningitis in 2021 still coming to terms with the changes . I’ve noticed that I’m getting irritated / angry over every little thing , but before it took a lot to make me even a little mad, I’m not sure what to do about it , should I make an appointment with my GP?

Fozzy,

I also found my temper was much much shorter after I recovered. It’s been four and a half years and I think that my temper is getting better. I’ve definitely learned how to listen to my body much more. I need much more sleep than I think I do! I’ve noticed that if I don’t get enough rest my mood definitely changes for the worst. Luckily my wife and kids are extremely understanding and supportive.

Hopefully it helps to know that it eventually dose get better. The recover process takes a long time. You and your body have been through a lot! Finding someone you can talk to definitely helped me. I have personally needed an antidepressant during my recovery. Giving your Dr. a call definitely wouldn’t hurt. This site has a ton of resources that can help you.

If you need anything please feel free to ask!

I’m currently on mitazapine but don’t think it’s working also on amytriptaline for headaches. I do get very tired but struggling to stay asleep which makes me more irritable, Was a really hard recovery went in hospital end march 2021 came out end April . My dad was admitted to hospital beginning of may found out he had terminal lung cancer, became his carer at home he passed end of may . Did all that on my own all while recovering from bacterial meningitis

I’m so sorry to hear that. That’s definitely a lot to process and heal from. If your not happy with your current medications definitely talk to your provider and advocate for your self.

I had terrible headaches for the year following my meningitis. I ended up having a some other complications that were contributing but I can’t recommend Magnesium Citrate enough for helping my headaches.

For what it’s worth it will get better. It’s definitely frustrating how long it takes but it will get better! This year will be five years of recovering and I’m still seeing improvements.

Let me and the Fourm know what we can do to help. Even if it’s to say that you don’t know what you need.

Ask your Doctor to test your B-12 levels. Low B-12 can make a person extremely moody. I have Mollaret and am Pernicious Anemia after 4 episodes of meningitis. The B-12 has been a life saver for me

I had bacterial meningitis in 4/17. I had a change in mood because I was frustrated with the changes my body now morphed into. I became totally deaf in my left ear . When I needed to focus , my brain hurt. I felt great pressure in my brain and the only way to relieve this pressure was to lie down , close my eyes and rest for a while . My memory was no longer the “ memory of an elephant “. My balance was terribly affected and being a yoga teacher , I had many moments of embarrassment as my tree pose turned into the pose of the falling one ! As tine went on , I adjusted to “ the new me”. Slowly but surely my valance improved a bit and the pressure in the brain is much better on most days . You will find that some. days are better than others and vice a versa. Live your life to the fullest and be patient with your body and mind. You’ll get your groove back .😀😀🙏
