Can you get both types of meningitis for one person?

hi, i’ve been told that my young cousin, 7 years old in may, has meningitis. Aswell, i have been told that he has both types, bacterial and virus, is this possible, i tried looking it up but nothing gave me the answer. Can one person get both bacteria and virus types of meningitis?

Hello, it is rare to suffer from both viral and bacterial meningitis at the same time, but possible.

Another possibility, is if the doctors suspect viral meningitis, but cannot confirm this, they will treat for bacterial meningitis as a precaution.

I hope your cousin is starting to feel better now.
