I'm now 14 months post VM and I'm experiencing pressure in my ears and head whenever I lay down and what sounds like rushing when I sit up? It's terrifying me to the point I sit up and Google my symptoms. I know that's not a good idea as it only causes me to panic even more. Does anyone else have this??

Pressure in my ears and head??
Hi. I had BM in March 2017 and since have experienced the same symptoms as you. My ears are constantly aching, ringing and feel heavy. My head feels funny all the time like I'm not well but scared at the same time. It's hard to describe but it is frightening. I also Google things as struggle to explain what I'm feeling to the doctor as feel that they dont quite understand what I'm saying. I've had nerve block injections at the back of my head to help with this but this was only 2 weeks ago. I've not yet felt the benefit of the injections. I totally understand you and hope that you get some relief soon. Have you had your ears checked by a specialist? Also, I found reflexology helps a little but you have to keep having it. It is worth trying. I'm on meds, had nerve blocks etc and to date the only thing that has given me some relief is the reflexology. Don't get me wrong, it's not cured anything but certainly has helped relieve some of the pain. I'm also going to try accupuncture. All the best. Aasiya xxx
Thank God. Google always points to cancer and other life threatening disease. I'm glad I'm not alone. I guess it's another one of those things that's going to take some time to get better.
I had BM last may i had suffered from ear infections prior to this. After the BM is still had same issues also suffered some hearing loss and then the headaches started.
I was referred back to ENT 3 times when they finally discovered i had a cranial CSF leak which is why i got meningitis in the first place as bacteria had found a way into my dura. My leak was very positional mine leaked out off my nose was very slow and only if i leaned forward its like water and very easy to confuse with a runny nose. I have just had surgery to repair leak but i still have the headaches tinnitus can hear my heart in my head and surgeon now believes im suffering for high pressure headaches (to much CSF in my brain) I feel for all off you its taken over a year and a half for diagnosis and treatment but dont give up if you think something is wrong keep pushing because if i hadn't i may have got meningitis again and it very nearly killed me the first time. Good luck to you all. Jackie
Yes, I had this a few days after leaving hospital. A whooshing sound that would occur in what seemed to be timed pulses and a sound like a heartbeat in both ears. This was really only evident at night whilst lying down. Both ears also felt blocked with a considerable feeling of pressure behind them. I had both ears micro suctioned privately in the hope that a build up of wax might be causing the problem. This actually made no difference. I asked my GP for a referral to an ENT specialist but was told there was a minimum 26 week delay even for urgent cases. Having little choice I just put up with it hoping it would go away. Six months after leaving hospital I had my first check up with a neurologist. I told him about the ear problem, the whooshing sound and the heartbeat type throbbing, and he stared at me without saying anything as if I was crazy! At my insistence he referred me to an ENT consultant. I still had to wait over six months for the appointment and by the time it came the problem had reduced considerably. This was fortunate because he had no ideas of what was wrong! Eighteen months later it is thankfully no longer a problem. I did have acute vestibular neuritis which could have well been a contributory factor. Meningitis is notorious for causing ear problems. The vestibulocochlear nerve seems to be very vulnerable. Unfortunately trying to get an NHS appointment with an ENT consultant is now like trying to get an audience with the Pope.
