Stinging in back of head

Hi,

I am nearly 8 months post VM but seem to be experiencing many after effects. One of which is a stinging sensation in the back of my head. This has changed from intense pressure and the start of VM but this stinging had lasted now for a week. it can go away for a while but has never lasted this long without a break. Nothing touches it including morphine. The pain is always at the base of my skull. It is also accompanied by pins and needles in both legs, facial numbness left side, nausea.I have a crackling noise in my left ear. I am still very photosensitive after 8 months, can only tolerate an hour of t.v.

Does anyone else have/had similar? ??

I have ongoing sense of pressure in the back of my skull and planning to try cranial osteopathy for it. I also have pins and needles (though its possible this is med or surgery related) and photophobia.

I also have a perpetual sense of dizziness and see a ENT in a few weeks to rule out vestibular issues. Maybe worth you asking for a referral for your ear problem and nausea?

Hope this helps x

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I hope your ENT appointment goes well.

The crackling in you ear could be tinnitus. I have tinnitus and it can be very loud and disturbing. Mostly tinnitus comes from some sort of hearing loss. Do get your hearing checked.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I think I will get my ears checked out. Just very strange they have been fine up until now.

I know one of the side effects from meningitis is hearing loss. I had meningitis back in 2016 and it effected my hearing. Do get it checked out. It won't hurt to find out.

I'm 4months on VM and looking inti alternative treatments, cranial Osteopathy might help you as it redistrubutes the spinal cord fluid trapped in the brain which causes the pressure. Also I'm considering cranio sacral therapy as it's similar and there's one near me. Meningitis Now fund sessions for both if you have a doctor or hospital letter stating you've got meningitis, I'm hoping to do this.

You sound in a lot of pain, I hope you get some relief soon.

Take care & rest if you can.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I did try one session of cranial sacral therapy around month 4. I felt too unwell to continue. I did try accupuncture around month 6 and I did see an improvement in nasuea, numbness, pins and needles. However I had terrible headaches after for a few days before they cleared. I found returning to work it was difficult to plan any alternative treatment if I was going to feel worse for days after. I have some working from home days coming up so you have given me the nudge I need to try cranial sacral therapy another go. I cant belive 8 months in my head is soo bad. Hoping it helps. Let me know whether you feel some benefit from your treatments and hope that your symptoms reduce.

Oh dear I thought these treatments would be my magic fix as no doubt you did. Haven't had any yet as researching who to go to & hoping for funding before even try to figure out how I'm going to get there as can only drive 5mins at this stage!

Maybe it was too early on for you at that stage & your body wasn't ready for it? Maybe now would be better? I do hope so so you get some relief. The therapist I spoke to said each treatment builds on the next & thought 4 sessions would show a marked improvement.

I'll let you know how I go in case it can help your recovery too. Take it easy if possible at work! Hope they are good to you as you're still ill.

when you receive acupuncture, sometimes the symptoms get worse before they get better. It brings the issue to the surface so your system can deal with it. You could also give that feedback to your clinician and they could try a different approach... I think it takes time to find what works. Looking into vagus nerve stuff might be helpful. The area at the back of the head is where the brainstem starts, and so any sort of trauma will be stored there. The vagus nerve is a huge nerve that regulates parasympathetic nervous system and usually pain in that area could be related. Cold therapy, singing, core work, some other things helps retonify the vagus nerve and release stress. I also have that burning and I think it is limbic system sensitivity. When i remember certain traumas I feel it. Another possibility is a type of acupressure called Jin Shin. Very gentle. That spot on the back of the head is a point in that therapy. It could be your body needs some help remembering how to move the qi. Those head aches are built up/ stuck qi. Good luck. Another possibility is to look for brain healing music on youtube and try infrared sauna. Very peaceful, very gentle, very relaxing. heals on a very deep level from the inside out. totally non-invasive.

CBD might also be worth looking into for pain...

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I will definately explore more amount vagus nerve and limbic system sensitivity. Interesting that you too experience a similar pain. What did you feel helped you the most? Hoping your pain has reduced.
