I had bacterial meningitis in Dec 2015. I have made quite a good recovery but still suffering with the after effects.

My head feels like I have a jelly in it and feels heavy and moves about when I walk! I can’t turn too quick as it can throw me off balance. Does anyone else suffer with this?

Thanks

Hi, have you tried vestibular rehabilitation therapy? It has helped me significantly though I still have a way to go. I had BM in Feb this year and don't expect the fog in my head to clear for several months yet but I am assured it will go. I also recently had an MRI head scan, which included an inner ear scan, all of which fortunately showed that there was nothing else going on. God luck, I know it's difficult.

Thanks for you reply, have have had neuro physio which consisted of eye movement exercises head and neck exercises but no improvement im afraid. Yes I get the brain fog too and suffer with axiety, its really getting me down. I just want a answer to whats causing this and if anything can be done. I have thought about asking to see a neurologist and feel I need a brain scan to rule out anything else. it has affected my mental health, which if I can get to the bottom of it my mental health will improve. I contacted bm through an inner ear infection. Hope all goes well for you too, they say time is the greatest healer but I don't think I am going to improve anymore! :-(

Hi! I also had bacterial meningitis in Dec 2015. I have the same symptoms with pressure sensation, that comes & goes. The exercises do help, went to physical therapy for 9 weeks & given instructions to do them daily. Good luck!

has it helped the feeling in your head doing the exercises, did they say what was causing it?

I have been told so many different causes so I am not sure. PT told me that brain is recovering from meningitis similar to having a stroke & needs to be trained, which seems plausible. I just want to feel normal again but I think that I just need to feel special & blessed that I have survived! Take care of yourself!

Hi Karen,

I am suffering with this so severe at the moment. I’ve had a diagnoses of vertigo but I’m just not convinced it’s that as I’ve been ill for 3 weeks now. Severe fatigue, bad dizziness, concentration problems, weakness and headaches that can come on suddenly.

Thinking of going to A&E to sort this now. Feeling terribly poorly. Is this similar to you?
