Breathless: Hi every1 . please help I had... - Meningitis Now
Breathless
Fatigue is always a constant battle to maintain.
It's very important to have a daily exercise schedule, walk, anything you manage physically. Even in the days where you feel it would be too much, get out in the sunshine & fresh air if you can. Your energy levels will slowly improve if you can stick to a routine.
Good luck, my thoughts are with you 😃
I also noticed breathlessness after I was ill last year. Like you walking up stairs brought it on! I mentioned it to my GP and after another round of blood tests I was found to be deficient in Vitamins D & B12. I now have a B12 injection every 12 weeks and feel much better. I probably wouldn't have mentioned this if I hadn't been visiting GP following meningitis!
Thank you Caz5. think I will go out an get myself some vitamins 2. I hate feeling this way. if you don't mind me asking. how long ago did u have meningitis
Hi Rosetta, I was taken ill at Christmas 2015 with pneumococcal meningitis. I still get fatigued but it seems to be better since the new year. At first I thought the breathlessness was another after effect but it was something else. I think that it would be worth getting the breathlessness checked out by the doctor. I dont know whether you are in UK, but the tests and treatment are part of the NHS and the GP told me more effective than vitamin tablets. Look after yourself x
Thank you Caz5. I did think about that . but then I thot mayb I need to start on exercise first becos in 2014-15 I use to exercise more an I wasn't like this that's y I thought let me try a bit of exercise first. if u don't mind me asking what was the breathlessness due to. I am in the UK. an thanks for your help
Hi Rosetta , I'm a 60 yr old female, & I'm 3.5 yrs post VM, & I still manage my fatigue, tinnitus, shortness of breath, & eye issues. I had a high stressed position, with a lot international flying & have since retired. I now focus on nutrition & exercise (yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates ) & proper rest . I also seem to remove myself from loud crowds now. My neurologist recommended that I continue to take a B12 supplement, & get as much vitamin D as possible. I believe this is my new normal , & I feel I'm blessed because it could always be worse!! Try to be patient & make yourself important! That helps!!
Take Care!!
Thank you Mdroney, I know I don't get enough rest because I am still frighten of falling asleep when by myself because of what happened. I will b 62 end of the month an I know I'm blessed to b here. losing my independence has knocked me for 6. I can't even make a phone call . I am going to try every thing that every 1 has advise. thank you again
Have you seen a respiratory therapist to make sure that your lungs have not sustained any damage? While I was still hospitalized with the meningitis in March of 2015, I had to have breathing treatments 3 times a day, every day. Once I got home, I was much better, but I did have a follow up appointment with a respiratory therapist.
