I just want to offer you sympathy. I don’t know the Leeds scene. I know that someone in my local authority has helpers coming via an agency, and the agency does try to send a consistent small team of people with as much regularity as they can. Snap Care are an introduction service and may be able to find you exactly the right person. You pay Snap Care to find the people and to do the checks. They also advise on payroll matters and on writing a good fair contract. Another option is for you to visit the CQC website and to check out local agencies by looking at the details in the inspection reports.

I wonder whether there is a person you trust outside the family or within the family who would be able to support you in the role of deputy or attorney for your son - depending whether your son has mental capacity to give lasting power of attorney. My son gave LPA to his sister, because he trusts her more than anyone else in the world. We’re getting older and less able to organise paperwork, so I’m grateful for this, although at present we do it all and she monitors the situation. There’s a company called deputyship dot co dot uk who will supply a professional deputy if you don’t have anyone whom you trust. Having a named trusted person in place, to take on the role of making decisions if the person can’t take them himself, that means the local authority can’t snatch decision-making power from your son.

my daughter has care funded by the council and they use an agency. They are very good and we always get the same carer except when she’s on holiday. You can check out agencies on trustpilot to see what customers are saying. I don’t want the hassle of managing the carer and want some boundaries for me so I can comfortably challenge or complain when I need to. I haven’t had to so far. If you’d rather manage it yourself then your local trading standards team may have an approved trader scheme where they vet people and businesses that provide care services. If they do that in your area that’s a good way to find someone who can be trusted.
