What is my son entitled to if he moves to residential care? Atm he has UC and PIP, both, which I manage for him.
He is now in a special needs college daily and returns home daily.
TIA

Hi your question does not give enough detail to give a informed answer when you say he going into residential care is that a residential care home or will it be supported living house with a council package of care as rules regarding benefits are totally different for both I recommended buying the Disability rights handbook as a carer about £20 it gives all the answers to benefits Has you son got social worker?
Hi, we have just moved our 30 year old son into residential carehome and financially it’s not great. They take the PIP off to pay towards the care costs. You have a financial assessment and the Gov blanket figure is to leave your love one with £30.15. All councils should be following this rule . So a 80/90 year old will be on £30.15 but as my son is 30 and we want him to have a life out of the residential home for cinemas , bowling etc this figure does not give him enough. DRE are not accepted in our council to help bring the contribution down ( currently arguing about) . They have the mobility car but of course only have £30.15 to put petrol in. You still receive the UC as normal but then the residential home invoice you your love ones contribution. Leaving them with the £30.15. We did look at supportive living but couldn’t find a suitable one with the care required.
If you are 100% health funding you keep all your benefits.
It has been a bit of a shock as to how much money our son is left to live off! The blanket figure of £30.15 for any age is ridiculous!
