Hello

Has anyone got any advice on the best pre paid banks cards to apply for. I am looking for one so my daughter has more independence in using a card. separate from her main debit card. Thank you for any advice you can give me :)

I use hyperjar (hyperjar.com/) and their Kids Card.

Their card is a pre-paid mastercard.

I had to get one for myself, and use the app on my phone.

Then I ordered what they call the Kids card for the person I care for to use.

I can then load money onto the kids card and it can be used like an ordinary contactless card.

If your cared for is an adult, you could do what I did and be very creative about their date of birth.

The only annoying thing is that I have to keep telling the card company that everything is ok with the kids card every 5 times they use it. It's only a click of a button but it is something I'd rather not have to do.

This might not be the thing you are looking for, but it works okay for me.

My son has a Fairfx card. It is advertised as a multi currency card but you can just use it with GB£. The account is in my name but with a separate linked card for my son. You need to top up via an app but it is really easy. I put load money on it on a Sunday evening for the week but can keep an eye on his spending via the app and if his groceries for example cost more than expected I just put a bit more on the card. I looked at a lot of options but most needed proof of .d.which my son doesn’t have. This one didn’t and you can have several linked cards if you needed.

I just ordered another debit card online for my son from our bank Natwest. He is 50 and doesn't have capacity for finance. I have the bank app on my phone with all the accounts with his name on, including the joint account his benefits are paid into. You can transfer money between accounts immediately, see how much he's spending, and top up when necessary, with no bank fees, and he can't overspend. You can see where he's spending money but can't actually see what he's spending it on which would be useful, but that's not possible with any card.

Hi there. My personal experience with Fairfx has not been good and I wouldn't recommend them. I loaded money on to the account as required and have not received the actual card to be able to use my money despite 5 requests over 5 months for a card to be sent. They apologise and dont do anything. Shocking company.

Monzo has worked perfectly for us. My son feels really independent, has learnt to ask for a receipt with each use and we can monitor his balance on his app. I transfer his spending into that monthly and keep the rest separate from that.

We use Monese for my adult son in much the same way as Galwaybay2 . I top it up using an app on my phone and it works well. I can track his transactions/purchases. He has tended to lose cards in the past and I can instantly 'lock' them and order new ones, which cost about £5 (because we don't pay a monthly fee) and usually arrive within 5 days. I have seen some poor reviews about Monese freezing people's accounts but we've been using them for several years without any problems. He struggles with cash so this works really well for him.
