Hi so we just today had a diagnosis of GDD and suspected autism (soon to be diagnosed) for my 4 year old son who is just starting school also been told by the doctor to apply to DLA any advice on anything would be helpful

The most important thing for your son is an education and health care plan which he will need to access help in his education and life generally. It is not easy to get and can take many months but I would start by contacting the local authority education department. Speak to mencap and IPSEA for help and support. Also look at a website called special needs jungle. Good luck

Lots of great advice online about how to apply. I found the most useful guide was this one: cerebra.org.uk/download/dis... If you are on Facebook there's a very active group devoted to DLA. It's called DLA for children, advice and support. Most important thing is to link everything back to his disability. Imagine you are talking to a skeptical person who knows nothing about autism and thinks your child is lazy/naughty.
