Hi I have a ‘situation’ I have a daughter who is pretty demanding , I separated 18 months ago and her dad has never been great… is really no support and is just needy himself. I am feeling like I just can’t have much of a life… how could I ever meet someone else for example, as well as just feeling pretty frazzled, I have another teenage daughter doin a levels and all her stress. I’m asking 2 things really… anyone else in similar? How have you managed? And how will I get her independent? Better for me and for her in the long run, though she will need persuading . I think spending time with her dad at the moment actually makes her worse… but I need a break??? Any thoughts or just similar???

Hi Manyjobs a lot of us on here have been stressed by the caring side of things and it is extra hard for you if your are on your own without support. Does your daughter have a social worker? You can ask for an assessment of her needs and yours as a cater too. She may get a personal budget where you can pay for her to be looked after when you work or she may even be able to get supported living. You need to stress how much you need to work to earn a living but can’t because of your caring responsibilities. I would suggest you contact your local carers centre who will be able to either help you or refer you to another organisation. At 18 your daughter will also be entitled to benefits so the citizens advice bureau can help with that. Good luck
