Hi First of all well done for calling your GP and asking for help .

I am sure the nurse will help you to form a healthy eating plan that you can follow every day .If you can do some exercise every day that would help you to lose weight and also help you to get fitter.

If your able to just a walk every day would be beneficial , you could start of with a short walk and then try to go a little further every week .

Also there are places like slimming world you could join ? You do have to pay but there will be lots of other people that are trying to lose weight too and you can all support each other .

St the moment I think the meetings are online but hopefully that will change in the near future .

I wish you the best of luck .

Hi Hidden

Good to hear from you! And I hope you are happy with your weight soon.

Have you read about 'body positivity'? It's an idea that whilst we often give ourselves a hard time about our bodies, we might not need to. And sometimes it's a good idea to embrace our bodies as they are! There's an article here: wellbeingtrust.org/news/10-...

But secondly, if you do feel you need to focus on your weight and you didn't enjoy Slimming World, is there someone you know that you could diet with? I think having a 'buddy' can really help!

Also like Teachginge64 noted, coupling a good diet with exercise would be great. As well as walking, there are loads of videos you can do online that may help. I really like Yoga With Adrienne on YouTube, here is her channel: youtube.com/user/yogawithad...

The last thing I'd say is sometimes it's hard to control your weight if you're on certain medications. So it's good your talking to your doctor in case this is a factor.

I wish you all the best!

Emma

Brilliant to hear back from you!

Yes walks are not only good for exercise and weight loss - but also great for mental health.

Weight Watchers could be good, are you interested in joining? If you do, I hope it works for you.

Take care,

Emma

Hi Gemsteve77,

Well done for reaching out and taking the first steps. The comments already given are all great advice.

I too have a bit of a weight problem that has been creeping on and I find dieting difficult. I did follow the 5:2 diet which is a healthier approach to dieting than many other diets out there. I had some success but fell off the wagon but aim to get back on very soon.

Something I have become aware of myself is how I treat food as a soother for emotional problems where the food becomes a temporary fix.

Presently I am doing a couple of online personal development courses that are cheap but I am getting a positive impact. This has helped me confirm that my food issue relates to my emotions and if I can get control of those then I will likely be able to get control of my eating too.

I don't know if your weight is due to a physical or emotional condition but I thought I would mention it in case it helps you and/or others reading this.

Contacting your GP is a great step forward. I hope the weight management nurse contacts you soon but you seem keen to start so perhaps the following might help you in the meantime.

With this in mind you could contact the addiction helpline and speak with one of their advisors to see if they can help you. Their weblink is as follows:

addiction.org.uk/addictions...

Addiction Helpline is a free confidential support helpline for anyone affected by addiction abuse. Your call will be answered by a fully trained addiction treatment expert and not a call centre. Our lines are open 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

Contact Us By Telephone: 0808 163 9632

You could also ask your GP to be put on a waiting list for counselling although I understand the lists can be long. You could also ask for access to the NHS online CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) course. A friend of mine did it and although she wasn't keen she has had great benefits from doing it. She is a much more positive and confident person than before she did it. It is something you have to actively engage with but it seems worth it.

I will leave it there in the hope you find and receive the help you want quickly.

Wishing you best wishes and much luck on your weight loss journey.

Well done for calling the GP. Well we all can give you advice but the right people really are your health professionals. However start eating salads fruits /vegetables. But that alone not enough. What makes a person loose weight is walking and exorcise. So if you use the healthy eating and exorcise you loose weight. But not forgetting that eating bad snacks and fatty foods and big portions won’t help you. Follow the advice from the health team and you will get there. Good luck.
