Prepaid card for shopping

my adult daughter has a learning disability and does not have a bank card, she just deals with actual money. Some shops etc. Because of COVID 19 are not accepting cash. Is there a prepaid card that I can put money on for her to use in these places.

Monzo Is a good pre-paid credit card. There are others, so I suggest a bit of research, but I like Monzo, it has an app which let's lets you know any transactions instantly.

The carers of my disabled son use a Sainsbury's Student Meal Ticket to pay for his food when they are out shopping without him being present. I put money into the Meal Ticket account at a different branch of Sainsbury's via my corresponding "Parent" Meal Ticket card. This will only be useful to your daughter if she shops at Sainsbury's.

(My son used to go shopping with a carer. He would use his Visa debit card to pay at the checkout - he knows his PIN. After Covid-19 hit he stayed home while his carers did his shopping. He had to take cash out of a nearby ATM for the carers to use - it was not considered appropriate that the carers be told his PIN. Then we started using the Sainsbury's Meal Ticket instead so he no longer needs to visit the ATM.)

Hello

This is a great question - I am sure this would be useful for lots of people at the moment.

There is a good summary of prepaid cards on the Money Advice Service website moneyadviceservice.org.uk/e...

And on the Money Saving Expert website - moneysavingexpert.com/credi...

As Sedley says, you will need to do a bit of research to find out what will suit your daughter best. They do charge fees so make sure you know exactly what you will need to pay.

It would be great if anyone currently using one could let us know how they find them.

Learning about money can be tricky. I thought you may also find this helpful - arcuk.org.uk/wp-content/upl...

Best wishes

Sarah

gohenry is the card. Prepaid and gives full control over spending. Costs 75p per week.

My younger children have Go Henry cards but not sure on the age limit. My special needs son uses cash, we’ve not had anyone say they don’t take cash yet luckily.
