Is there no possibility that you could all go and take a support worker who will do all the caring while you take it easy I know it's not really a break but at least someone else had the responsibility at least you could relax
Hi, could you gradually introduce her to respite. It's a huge step expecting loved ones to stay in a strange enviroment with unfamiliar staff etc. Start slowly and one of you accompany her maybe an afternoon visit and once she feels safe and comfortable she may be willing to stay over. Any good respite facility should offer short visits to help the transition for the service users. It may take several visits but getting it to work for you all is the end goal so may be worth a try. Best wishes.
Hi Bristolroverd5555 i am sorry this is such a late reply but I just want to give my experience as an ex respite user and what helped me.
My family were really struggling with me,I have learning disability, severe challenging behavior, classic autism, epilepsy etc and what had helped me is Someone videoed the path that I woud be walking into the respite, took photos of the room, photos of the staff who work there and I was able to go over and over them as much as I want.
I was then invited in to have a look around.
I was then invited in to spend the night there.
I ended up moving in as it had a long term unit.
She probably has a lot of anxieties around change,it’s all newc to her.
Once she got into a pattern/routine it woud get so much easier,it’s finding out what coud help her anxieties that might help.
I brought my entire room with me every time, quilt, bed sheets, pillows, curtains, laptop etc, every little thing that made my room similar.
Holidays may become an interest when she gets more experience with them,I know of a couple of a companies who do supported holidays -if you need an idea.
I went to my first ever holiday in my early thirties to centre parcs with my mum and two support staff-my mum got a lot of sleep or respite while staff took me around and she Stayed awake at night in case I hade a seizure.
