Hi all, I’ve been working towards the New Forest HM using Jeff Galloway’s tailored training plan on Garmin Connect.
I needed a plan that involved walking so I don’t put any undue pressure on my heart following a heart attack and cardiac arrest last year. My colleagues at Cardiac Rehab (where I now volunteer) were happy for me to start running again last year as long as I didn’t do too much too soon or go too mad and they’ve been monitoring me on a weekly basis, with no issues having been identified.
Today I completed the final long run of the plan (actually over 15 miles including warm up and cool down walks), so I know I can get through the HM now.
It’s been a tough year but I’m glad I’ve stuck with it and I’m just happy to be able to run again! I don’t care about my time, I know I won’t break any records but my priorities have changed so it doesn’t matter at all.
Look out for my post in 3 weeks, when I’ve hopefully completed the HM 🤞

It is a lovely course, I stayed in a great hotel last year, I shall enjoy everyone's race reports this year, and if I ever run again it'll be something to aim for next year
Super effort David_G! You have found a sensible pace and the right balance between running and walking for you. The HM looks as though it will be a run/walk in the park for you! You have put in a huge amount of work to get here; you deserve your success. 👍
Great job David. Your patience, determination and diligence have really paid off. I did the NF HM last year, it's a great run - hope you have a great time.
Well done David, let’s keep our fingers crossed for fine weather on that weekend. On our first 2 years we had lovely weather, but It was very humid last year, followed by torrential rain, and then bright sunshine.
I was so pleased to see this come in on Strava. No worries about speed or time, we all get the same medal at the end. You'll richly deserve yours because of your inspiring comeback. Well done and go get what's yours 🏅⭐
