Hello running friends 👋 How are we this Monday? The start of a new week and the last one in June. What’s your news?

I woke up yesterday morning and thought it was Monday already and then panicked because I hadn’t drafted the Chat post yet! Yikes! I was just ready to jump out of bed and then realised it was only Sunday and I could relax. Phew. But I did have to ponder how to kick off the chat and then realised I already had the answer! Silver clouds and all that 🤣

I haven’t got much news. I haven’t run since my fall last Wednesday because my knee and shoulder were still quite stiff and sore. But I’m heading out today for a little jogette to see how everything feels 🫰 I’m in Ireland again. I brought my mum back yesterday as she had been staying with us for a few weeks, so it is always lovely to run different routes when I’m here 🤗

Have you run any new routes recently? Or do you tend to stick to the same ones? I’ve often thought I should be a bit more adventurous and drive to new places but I don’t. There’s something calming about the same regular routes that I quite like.

Anyway, it’s a short one from me this time. Over to you to tell us your news. How has your week been and what are your plans for the coming week? We hope you’re having good runs but if not, for whatever reason, we’d still love to hear from you.

Have a happy week whatever you’re doing. Apparently, in the UK, we’re heading into a heatwave, so take care and stay safe and keep as cool as you can 😎

From your team, Beachcomber66 , linda9389 and me xxx

Good morning IP. It continues to be cloudy down here 28 miles South West of Cornwall, but the UV still creeps through so care is required! I posted about about my first holiday run yesterday; a nice “feel good”effort. We walk every day here too, so plenty of exercise, and tomorrow our daughter’s school friend, and self declared adopted third son is dropping in from Australia for a couple of days to see how we are. Lots to catch up on with him and the locals. So being lazy, but having plenty of exercise and chats at the same time.

Your fall injuries seem determined to hang around for a while! Hopefully an easy run will loosen things up 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞. Enjoy your time in Ireland. 🙂

It’s cloudy here too BC but humid. I did a gentle 5K and it’s all fine, so I’m mightily relieved.

You're going to have a wonderful time I’m sure 😎 Rest well, run well and eat lots of lovely food x

I cant see a post from you yesterday BC ... am I going totally mad?

Nope; it’s me! I did a long response to Sandraj’s post … long enough to be a post …!! 🙄

Hi Irishprincess & other VRB’s,

Enjoy your time away Irishprincess 😎

My regular routes always involve the ocean as we live only a mile away from it. I enjoyed finding longer routes to do to up my miles. I’ve got routes up to 18 miles now.

A light running week for me. I’ve reached 100 on my weekly run streak.

Happy week everyone! ❤️🏃‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️

Today’s run

Silver clouds and all that??? Looking on the bright side, last time I looked out there weren't any clouds here.Moving beds the other night and the headboard fell smack into the side of my left knee.....there a bit of swelling and some bruising but the joint doesn't feel right and hurts to touch so not run yesterday and won't today.

But.....yesterday I spent time gardening and sat in the sun, so far this morning I've washed my car, so getting other things done.

Drink plenty and stay safe all.

Take care! Chores are dangerous 😀

I was going to break out the hedge cutter yesterday but decided against as I cut the cord last time, so tackled the thing by hand. So much quieter and less frenetic. Just me and the birds

Have a good week 👍🙂

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRun10 Miles in reply tomisswobble

Ha ha ha, I well remember the hedge cutter, I was being so careful the first time I used mine, a neighbour came out and started chatting, whoops, straight through the lead

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply toSueAppleRun

I feel less bad as my husband did the same thing after I’d cut through it My son did the same and my husband had to repair that one yesterday

If preferred my petrol one 😀

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRun10 Miles in reply tomisswobble

That made me laugh, yes I think we all cut through it in my family, I have no hedges here so gave it away along with my chainsaw before I moved, years ago I had a petrol chainsaw and lent it to someone, never remembered who id lent it to and it never came back

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply toSueAppleRun

I had a second hand petrol Honda hedge cutter which was great. OH broke a blade and replaced it with an electric The cord is a nuisance ☹️

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessAdministratorHalf Marathon in reply toSueAppleRun

As long as it was the lead Sue and not a limb 😱

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessAdministratorHalf Marathon in reply tomisswobble

I hate all these power tools. I have an electric saw that took me ages to use as I was so scared of it. I’m still a bit nervy around it but it takes the hassle of cutting through bigger stems and branches.

A friend who is a nurse and works in A&E says they get lots of professionals in regularly who have had accidents with their power tools. And they have been trained how to use them properly!

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply toIrishprincess

they are scary! 😳. I’ve chewed my jeans up and my knee once! Just a few cuts and bruises but it made me more careful. I hate the darned noise they make as I’m a bit Zen in the garden and would rather listen to quiet, music or the birds twittering 👌

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessAdministratorHalf Marathon in reply tomisswobble

Me too 🙂

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy510 Miles in reply tomisswobble

Been there done that too. When I took it in to be repaired, the man recommended putting the lead over your shoulder. He was right of course but I think he enjoyed the macho male bit. 😂

misswobble profile image

I’m dreading using it again 🙈

Oh no Sue! Grrrrrr, everywhere is a danger for our running 🙀

Perhaps your bone is bruised. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery and watch out in the garden too. It’s a jungle out there 🫣

Morning IP and pals. I have no news. But I can’t say nothing so suffice to say I had a relaxing week of running last week, chugging on with the HM Plan, this week will be the same, and hopefully it’ll be punctuated by the arrival of something small (🩵)

Oh I do hope all was well when you tried running today IP. I missed the post about your tumble. I bet your mum had a wonderful time staying with you for 2 weeks, and so nice that you can spend some time in Ireland with her.

We do take part in a few tourist parkruns to try out new locations, and meet new people. It’s also a bonus to take UTS away from Southsea, where he is Co- Event Director , so he can completely relax.

When I am visiting a garden or NT property I can’t help checking it out for running potential.

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessAdministratorHalf Marathon in reply toDexy5

Morning Dexy. The run was lovely, a gentle 5K. So I’ll do a couple of those before I move on.

I’ve just seen your post about the race so I must head over and read it.

Of course, with all your parkruns you will get to run new routes fairly regularly 🙂

Hi IP - hope your test run went okay and that you are feeling better now?

Re running the same routes - I am definitely guilty sometimes, although I have quite a few options where I live - none of which require any driving to. I do have my favourites though!

A few months ago, my husband and me signed up for trail run challenge in our local area. Basically there are 6 trails to follow using a guided audio.

sixpack-challenge.co.uk/gui...

We did the first one and it was fab because it took us on trails and routes we would never have found or run without it! Sadly my husband is sidelined with an injury at the moment but we do hope to return to the challenge soon.🙂🏃‍♀️🏃🏽

IrishprincessAdministratorHalf Marathon in reply toSandraj39

The test run went ok thanks Sandra so no damage done 🙂 thank goodness.

That trail challenge sounds fab! I hope your husband recovers soon though 🤞to return to it.

How exciting! I’ve just seen your post and I’m sure folks will be around to give you some pointers.

I’ve not run a marathon so feel I can’t really give you advice but this is the place to come during your training as there is loads of expertise around.

All I can say is consistency in your running is key, build in strength training, learn to fuel properly, make sure you have reduced mileage weeks every 4/5 weeks to give your body a rest, eat, drink and sleep well to sustain the higher mileage and enjoy it all!

Good luck and let us know how you’re getting on.

Tessie66 profile image
Tessie66Half Marathon in reply toIrishprincess

Thank you and I look forward to all the advice

I’m also checking in with a “no news” update! The training plans continues. It’s taken a while to shake off a cold so I’m pleased it was a cutback week on the schedule. Long run of nine miles coming up and I’m wondering how that will work in the heat. I think it’ll have to be a super early start or get the head torch out and go late.

I have spotted the early signs of runners’ tan developing and taken measures to help by ordering a pair of shorts of a different length. Last year the tan lines across my thighs were ridiculous and maybe this year there’ll be a more gentle gradient from white to brown! Thank you Sweaty Betty via Vinted!

Still no grumbles or niggles from the knee, except a big bruise from whacking it with the bar at Body Pump this week. I’ll take that over the IT band thing any day!

Have a great week all! Stay safe in the sun!🌞

Ps: totally forgot to say really sorry about your fall! Recovery vibes and hugs to you! ❤️‍🩹

RunWillie profile image
RunWillieMarathon in reply toMissUnderstanding

Go early MissUnderstanding You will get to watch the sun rise & have that smug feeling that you’ve run 9 miles to start your day.

MissUnderstanding profile image
MissUnderstandingHalf Marathon in reply toRunWillie

Thank you! That’s my instinct, especially after a five mile drudge Sunday evening post dinner!!! I love dusk runs but I’m finding long ones are difficult to keep the energy up all the way through at the end of the day.

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessAdministratorHalf Marathon in reply toMissUnderstanding

That all sounds positive. Yeah! Running in the heat does sap your energy, so I always prefer really early runs before the day starts.

It’s cooler here in Ireland thank goodness but am heading back home today 🥵

And thank goodness for SB 🥰

Ridiculously late replying, I forgot in a chaotic and stressful week, I'm so sorry!

Late, but I just wanted to let you know I almost went head over heels the other day. One of those pantomime moments where you are staggering forwards and downwards for the longest time, arms and legs all over the place ... until eventually your head beins to lift and you know ou've saved the day. The crazy thing was, I was literaly playing though in my mind what had happened to you, what BC has said, telling myself I must be super careful because the Thames path was rocky, root strewn and full of potholes at this point. It was a real, loud conversation in my head and yet I still missed that tree root!!!

You mention the panic of realising you haven't drafted your chat post. I know that feeling! The other feeling is that of great relief on a Monday morning when you see one of the other admins posted the chat post, and you know you didn't make a mistake by not putting it on your own calendar (or is that just me? 😍)

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessAdministratorHalf Marathon in reply tolinda9389

Oh no! Lucky you saved yourself in time. It all seems to happen in slow motion too!

And yes to your last paragraph. I know exactly how that feels 🙀
