Really grateful to get a chance to run this route and phenomenally well supported event.
The entertainment is brilliant and there is always something to see and hear.
The race was warmer than expected and the strong winds were actually pretty useful to help cool down. I hadn’t trained nearly enough for the distance but I was determined not to let my space go unused.
It was great to find myself at the bag drop standing next to TailChaser and Katnap what a small place a field of nearly 20,000 runners can turn out to be. Absolute HU legends, glad I got a chance to say hello!!
It wasn’t my best run by a long way and I found myself with pretty bad cramp at around 10 miles. I pretty much walked the last 3 miles but I got to the end, got my medal and headed to the pub with a group of runners all supporting the same charity.
Hopefully will get to run it again, it’s not easy to get a place and I can see why!!!

Congratulations Kevin41 and well done on your great achievement. I bet it was great to meet up with TailChaiser and Katnap The HU runners certainly get around 😂. Great photo and a fab medal at the end all for a great cause.🎉🎉🥳🥳🏃👏👏
Thank you - this forum has always really helped me to develop and keep running. A big part of that is reading reports and progress from Tailchaser, Katnap and all the other HU runners. It was fab to be able to say a quick hello and good luck!
Well done Kevin, I know all about running a HM unprepared! Kudos to you 👊. You got round and you have your well earned medal, so I hope you feel mighty proud of yourself. 💪
Great to meet up with the legendary duo too! They deserve medals on all kinds of levels, being wonderful people being one of them. 🥰
I have another half marathon in June and I’m hoping the ache in my legs is motivation enough to keep my training distance and frequency up enough to do a better job of it!! The LLHM medal is a really great one and I was very happy to get it at the end!!!
As soon as I realised I was standing next to them I had to say hello - hopefully I didn’t come across like a random weirdo 😂😂😂😂
Good for you, jumping right back in! I ran Cardiff last October on next to zero training, and like you I walked/ran more than I wanted to towards the end. This year I’ve entered again and I’ve already started training! 😂
I know TC and Katnap were thrilled to meet you, so don’t worry, you definitely weren’t perceived as a weirdo! 🤣
Thank you - I am! I genuinely didn’t know if I’d finish or not when I lined up in the starting pen so I was very pleased when I turned the corner into Whitehall for the last couple of hundred yards!
Congratulations Kevin, it takes a lot of determination to complete a run when you’ve still got to get that much distance in with cramp - a very well deserved medal!
I hope you’re all recovered now and basking in the glory. Fingers crossed we can all do it again next year (you never know!) 🤞
PS: You’ve made me blush, I’ve never been called a ‘legend’ before 😳
Congratulations Kevin, that's a great achievement. It sounds like an amazing atmosphere too. Those last 3 miles are tough without cramp, so well done for getting through it. I'll bet your success will spur you on to your next HM. 👏👏
Thanks - I figured the cramp was 100% my own fault which oddly made me more determined to finish. The crowd were amazing and so generous with their support of love to do the LLHM again
Huge congratulations on crossing the finish line. It must take an awful lot of determination and self-talk if you don't feel you've done enough training. It really is a great event if you like all the noise of crowds and entertainment.
I think it was only the 2nd year of it's existence when I ran it. As I entered late in the day I had a charity place too. I really liked the added connection that gave me - both to fellow charity runners and to the cheer point part way round (it really felt like they were there for me!). And when I look at that medal, it has the added memory of the funds we raised too.
Well done on the run, and well done on the charity support too 😊
thanks linda9389 - one of my favourite things about running for a charity is the connection to the other runners and supporters, it’s great isn’t it. Really helps when the going gets tough!
