Sunday morning long run, whoops! 🀭

I've been running keeping my heartrate fairly low lately, with one interval run a week. Today was to be my hour and 15 minutes run. Half hour zone 1 half hour zone 2 and 15 minutes zone 3, then 15 minutes zone 1 to cool down. I did this run a few weeks ago and it's mostly pretty slow so I covered ,7.6k in that time, arrived home feeling great. But mostly continuous running.

Today was going to plan, steady heading north, seeing the downs in front of me, turn right along the A27, bit uphill, half hour done, up pace a little to get heart work a little harder.

Then my head started chattering, I'm about half way to the river, there's a nice new smooth path leading to the bridge, I could cross that run down the other side, along the seafront and home. 🀣🀣🀣, whoops, the deciding factor was a bloke in a car at the roundabout pulling up so I could cross the road. Part of my brain turned right as per plan! The rest of me, legs arms hat bottle of water etc crossed the road and headed for the river duh πŸ™„.

I went sightseeing πŸ€£πŸ€πŸ€£πŸ™„πŸ€£ I saw the Downs, I saw the river, I crossed bridges, I saw widewater lagoon, I saw the sea and I saw the railway line.

It was lovely, the sun was shining, a smile hovered on my face, music played, oh and coach B. I'd set off the 5k run for second week of the HM plan I started a while ago. Got to the end of that run thinking I'm a long way from home, shall I cut through? Nope, kept going.

I'd reached the 15 minute zone 3 part of my run just as I left the main road and roar of cars behind. This is pace 8.15-8.50 and took me across the bridge, relaxed into a very slow pace to bring my heartrate back down, and that run was over, I left it running on Garmin though, walked a bit, took some photos, got to the next bridge, back on the road, up some steps, narrow path, people dogs kids on bikes, I walked, crossed the road and headed to the beach.

Stopped at the ladies, cursed that the hand wash dry thing didn't dry my hands, it was blowing a hooley along the top of the beach and my hands froze until they dried out properly.

I picked the next run in the plan, 25 minutes recovery, took it steady, felt strong and ignored my heartrate.

Arrived where I cross the road, away from the sea, not far from home now, couple more kilometres. Because my Garmin shows heartrate I didn't know how far or how slow I'd run.

Decided on 2nd speed run, I was eager to get home by then. Most surprised that the faster intervals felt so good, I'd been out two and a half hours by then. Once that was over I walked the last 15 minutes home and yay 13.25 kilometres done at a not too bad overall pace.

I now need to find a longer loop, or go out and back along the seafront.

Oh and I bought a car the other day....first time ever buying my car without someone telling me what to buy, it was scary but liberating.

Run happy or rest well my virtual running buddies, I appreciate each and every one of you.

🍏oh so special to have a post from you Sue! What an incredible morning! I would never have thought of doing a mixture of different guided runs! Wow you are certainly fit and enjoying these adventures. Amazing photos too.. I am not so sure you need a car🀣 you get around quite fast without one! Congratulations on both the run and the car!! May both bring you happy miles! πŸ€©πŸ€—

Thanks Annie, well I only started with the 5k run, expecting to run 7.6k so would have been on the home straight when it finished but I thought oh let's pick another run as I'm so far from home and then of course, let's see what happens if I try to run faster after being out a couple of hours.I really needed to stop trying to patch up my old car, it's cost me loads over the last year and there comes a point I had to make that decision.

I nearly bought shoes too, my last car has been leeching money for a year now so it was time to stop trying to patch it up.Thank you, I've been unwell for so long it's great to feel well and run further 😁

Really really good expedition SAR. I like the off the cuff, make it up as you go along feel, driven by what you fancy doing at the time and nothing else. I keep promising my self a run/ walk up into the forest and over to Roseberry Topping, but the drive to do the next run on the plan is very strong. Roseberry Topping would be run/walk/climb…although much of the route back would be down hill! Maybe one day πŸ™‚

Maybe one day, I'd tried to work out how far that loop was last year with Google maps but some of it is off road so I just had to run it. I think I could run stronger in the second half because the first half was deliberately slow to keep my heartrate down, in the past it spiked, I got puffed out and had to walk, most of the first half was run 😁

Aww thank you, yes I did, and in shorts too, it's still chilly but nice not to wear long leggings, bet I looked funny all the walkers were bundled up in coats, but runners I saw were in shorts

Tomorrow is supposed to be 5 degrees up here…and wet! I will try to leave my leggings behind …..but even today, although it is bright and sunny, the wind is icy. 7 or 8k planned for tomorrow. I will just start running and let my legs decide how far!

Have a good run tomorrow, I'm hoping to run in Bath on Wednesday, even a short one would be good

Yes I know, I'm going for the spa and granddaughters birthday, last year I went and ran alongside a river which was flat, this time we are staying in the centre so it'll be streets, but it's a beautiful place

Wonderful occasion πŸ™‚

A run before 10am would be relatively quiet as the tourists don't seem to start coming until then.

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessAdministratorHalf Marathon in reply to Beachcomber66

Apart from a few little cheeky hills (one at the end 😫) the route is pretty flat. The challenge would be running around lots of tourists and shoppers but if you head for the parks or the outskirts then you can get some lovely routes.

Sounds lovely. I drive but willow did most the driving, I just drove a mile to work and back daily. This last year has seen me drive all over the place, and rekindle the joy I have for it.

This is such a wonderful run report to read. Enjoy your time in Bath-I know it well and it’s a brilliant city to visit. The spa is super! A great way to recover after such a good run! ❀️

I've been before and love it. Last year we went for our anniversary, this year granddaughter and boyfriend are going for her birthday, she's 21, and her mum and I are going for one night, couple hours in the spa, hopefully a run, and tea and cake for the birthday girl, it's my favourite place but about 3 hours away so don't go often

Well Sue! What can I say except wow! πŸ‘Š What a wonderful explore! That’s a good idea, doing more than one guided run. I’ve never tried that. Bet you got back home feeling incredibly proud.

And a new car too! All good stuff. Long may good stuff continue! πŸ˜€

How long are you in Bath for? Enjoy. No chance of a meetup though, no matter how long you’re here, as I’m flat out this week ahead of going away on Friday. I’ll wave though, as we’re only 13 miles away! πŸ‘‹

Thank you cheeky. Only the one night, last year we couldn't see her on her birthday because she was in Malaysia so it's a must this year. Mudita11 and I said we'd love to run a parkrun in your area, we'll arrange that for later this spring

Sounds like a lovely time indeed. Well done to you! I'm aiming for that sort of distance tomorrow. Having a go at keeping my heart rate low using my MAF number(may have it a little wrong but I managed 119 bpm yesterday) With hills I expect some waking will be needed. You post is added inspiration for me. Thank you 😊

Wow! SAR that sounds wonderful. Running the way you want to, because you want to. A smile hovered on my face says it all πŸ₯°

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRun10 Miles in reply to linda9389

Sometimes the smile takes a while to peep out so longer runs find it. Mind you, you should see it on hill repeats.....I'm grinning widely then! Luckily not many see me racing up on the downs then walking or joggling slowly down again.....😁
