The racing calendar starts to warm up considerably in March so we expect lots of fabulous events this month!
Give us the details here and weβll send you on your way on the Friday beforehand with lots of hearty pompom cheers from your VRBs. We need the name and date of the event plus a link to the website if you can.
It doesnβt matter what the distance is or where it is. It might be a first time for you or a race that you do every year. It might be a fun run or a distance youβve never tackled before. Everything is welcome so give us all the details π
We look forward to seeing some great races π½π
First half marathon coming up on 3rd of March at the City of Newport Half Marathon Supporting St David's Hospice Care. Unfortunately not been able to run for over a week due to illness and medication so resigned myself to walk/run/enjoy the atmosphere. On the bright side PB is guaranteed as long as I finish π
Hi Cowladyrunning, me too training was going pretty well until a week last Sunday which was the last time I ran. Still can't put my finger on what's wrong but will enjoy the day anyway. Furthest I've been is 10 miles but thinking positively it's only a slow parkrun on top of thatπ I haven't had my pack yet though
Nor me. I wasn't sure if we got it or need to pick up on the day? I only do up to 10 miles before a half as that was what the plan I first followed said. Good luck! I happened to sign up to the Pontypool 10k this weekend too π Didn't think about them being that close together!
I was told that it was mainly flat which was one of the reasons for entering but I've heard a few moans about hills too. Being Wales though I knew there would be a bump or two ππ I'm aiming to get around in about the same time so maybe I'll see you in the start pen π
Thank you Sonia, it's a new route this year, going through King's and Jesus colleges as usual, but also John's and Trinity. I'm familiar with them all but it's still very special
I'm going to add me in for running the Newport Half on the 3rd please same race as mentioned above - I know I said I wasn't but I've done a test 10 mile run and jeffed it so it was fine.... So I'm doing it!! π±π Sorry for late entry but there I've committed now π€£ Thank you!
Oh that's great! I started doing the NRC HM plan last March, done it twice through, and had to secure my entry back in September last year. It's taken up a lot of my running for a whole year!! No idea why they open entries so early, it opened in June and sold out in days for the general public. I had a guaranteed volunteer place but still had to complete my entry in Sept.
You'll be in a good place in your head, better than me!
Hello! I am signed up for the Chelmsford Half Marathon cmhalf.com also on 3 March. Somehow I have still not done more than 15k in practice, partly because the roads and tracks I have attempted to use have been very wet or very muddy (or both), and in either case very hard work! The 15k was in London where they don't seem to have the same issues... anyway I feel woefully underprepared but will give it a go.
Youβll be fine. I read recently that if we can run 8 miles in training we can do a half ok. Iβve missed two weeks of training for mine (17th) and am not in the best shape but hey ho we can give it our best π
This will be my sixth HM. The first five I have run faster every time. This time I'm torn between "going for it" (it's a flat course unlike the hilly Maidstone HM) or encouraging my friend who is returning to fitness and looking to just get under 2hr. She says I should go for it. I suspect I won't decide until the day...!
Cambridge Half on Sunday 3rd, though after a week of skiing, I really don't know if the legs/knees have got it in them! I'll need to see how this week goes, walking the dog is enough for me today I think!
Its a lovely race, nice mix of terrain and its usually a really popular event.
I'll now got a bit of an issue with my achilles now, which is probably down to all the hill training Im doing, a bit frustrating to say the least!!π¬
