I had originally planned to run this HM on Sunday 14th but had already signed up to a local 8.5 mile trail race for that day. After looking at the race route which was quite hilly, I decided against continuing after the race to complete the HM and moved my run to Saturday 20th. I woke with a sore stomach, felt like Iโd been punched from the inside! After some faffing & consulting Dr Google(as you do), I decided the soreness could have been caused by consuming too much quinoa in the previous 2 days. Apparently, itโs a thing! Something to do with saponin on the outside of the seed which can cause inflammation. Anyway, I decided I was safe to go and off I went, an hour later than planned. It was a warm, sunny day and my hour faffing meant it was warmer, quicker than I liked, but I was wearing running shorts for the first time ever which helped keep me cooler. My run included:- watching a crow dive-bomb a bird of prey; enjoying wild orchids & cowslips; wonderful far-reaching views; a wild wee ๐คซ; running- through fields (wet feet!), woods, old quarry in the woods, past young cows ๐ณ (luckily they ignored me), through a golf course, up & down hills. Felt ok until 17kms when I felt really tired & had lots of walking breaks. I pushed on but didnโt really enjoy the last 5kms โน๏ธ Really glad I did it but not sure Iโll be repeating that distance any time soon. Massive thanks to those that organised this event and well done to everyone else that ran, walked, skipped or hopped ๐

Well run! Sounds like a beautiful but rather hilly route , and in hot weather too! ๐ Interested to read about the "quinoa affect" .Who knew? Thanks for the info -going to do a bit of reading now!
That was great run Runnin-g, well done on tackling that varied route. It does sound lovely. ๐
Iโm with you on the 17k slump. Iโve had it in all the HMs Iโve run (about 6). For me is the no manโs land between the achieving exciting 10 mile milestone and the end, and that 4k seems to go on forever.
Well done for perservering, you did brilliantly. ๐๐๐
A good run, interesting too, glad you quinoa didn't seem to impact, with hills too, impressive.
What a lovely report! I loved the sound of that ๐ Well done for pushing on when it felt tough.
Thatโs interesting about the quinoa, I never knew that. Every dayโs a school day here ๐
What a beautiful photo and great run report. Those last few kilometres feel like they're all about the legs but in fact it's a big mental battle - and you won the war ๐ช๐๐๐ Congratulations and very well done ๐
