A very grateful HU10K completed 😊

After last year's bouts of covid continuing to effect this year's running, I'd started to think I'd never get back to 10k.

As I was only back up to 6k & without the HU races being due, would have been doing 7k this weekend, I'd decided not to beat myself up about walking if needed or even for the last few k as long as I got round πŸ€”

I prepared really well, being extra carefull to stay hydrated and doing stretches & rolling in the few days prior...though I started with a cold on Thursday & was crossing everything it wouldn't cause an issue 🀞

Well this morning I woke feeling rested & apart from a mild sore throat & snuffly nose felt pretty well...so before I could dare to overthink, I drank some water, had a couple of bites of banana, a spoonful of honey, got kitted up, did some dynamic stretches, a last bit of rolling & got out the door 😊

And what a beautiful morning for a run, it started off so well, my legs felt loose, breathing was good, it certainly brought a smile to my face and let me hope maybe I could run the whole thing. With that in mind I decided to walk the few hills I'd encounter, to hopefully not overtire myself & I have to say it worked really well πŸ‘Œ

I'd expected to slow considerably in the last few k but in the end took them faster than expected as at 6k my watch told me my battery was low (clearly not quite as prepared as I thought πŸ˜‚)...luckily I knew the route to 10k & there was a man walking his dog so I asked him the time, banked that along with my 6k time, so if it did die I'd be able to work out how long I'd taken when I got home 😁

I then proceeded to try to beat my watch battery, and though it's not something I'd recommend, it was a brilliant distraction 😳 πŸ˜…

I completely forgot to worry if I was over-doing it & if I would make it to the end. In not thinking & just running (while regularly looking at my watch), I arrived home jubilant & amazingly pressed save just before my watch died πŸ˜‚

I am absolutely shattered but to say I'm thrilled would be an understatement...thank you so much Linda for arranging this, & to all the wonderful folks on our fabulous HU running forums. Now I'm going for a much needed shower...that may be the smell of success but I'm not sure anyone but me would appreciate it 🀭

Included with my times are a fabulous pic my Aunty Bet sent me as it's my birthday weekend...I assume she's suggesting the drink after my run rather than during πŸ˜‰

Well done Run46 on you brilliant 10k. The 10k & HM events have given us a great challenge. It's great news that you beat your watch battery too! I hope you have given yourself a well-deserved pat on the back. I love your picture. Enjoy your drink and Happy Birthday. πŸŽ‚πŸ₯‚ Xx(Ps -are you considering the Cheshire 10k/hm in Sept? Or the Chester zoo 10k?) X

Thanks CSMN, fabulous addition to my birthday weekend, makes me feel though I may be older, I'm far from old 😊

I got rid of the car recently as it was barely being used during covid & became a costly front garden ornament...it means I haven't really considered any races but I do have a friend who recently got to 10k so you never know πŸ˜‰

Love that pic! Happy Birthday to you πŸ₯³ and what a great way to celebrate.

I do that thing too of trying to outrun my watch battery dying. It’s equally frustrating and distracting but weirdly satisfying when you finish before the battery dies πŸ˜‚

Well done on the run. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Thanks IP, best way to celebrate a birthday & makes you feel a bit smug eating treats knowing you've already burnt them off...well, some of them πŸ˜‚

It's the 1st time I've had to outrun my battery, funny but exhausting πŸ˜…

Well done, what a run, hills and a low watch battery always add to the excitement of running

Fantastic, Run46 ! πŸŽ‰ Wishing you that you not only outran your watch's battery but also the bug that gave you a sore throat!

Happy celebrating the successful 10K AND your birthday!!! πŸ₯³

Thanks CR2, what a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday 😊

Fingers crossed re: the cold & that I've chased it off rather than just annoying it πŸ˜†

Amazing Run46! You overcame the odds and smashed a fabulous 10k, plus you sound very happy - and that’s what it’s all about! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ€žπŸ€žπŸ€ž

Thanks Cheeky, I loved it...I think ill health & setbacks really make you appreciate the ability to run.

I am tremendously grateful to be healthy & fit enough to get out there πŸ˜ŠπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Too right. I had a long lay-off and lost boatloads of fitness. Almost back there again now, and it feels fabulous doesn’t it? πŸ™πŸ»πŸ₯°

Great report, R46, and love the picture too. Sounds like you did pretty well there. I have also tried β€œrunning against the battery” and lost, so a double well done to you on that.

And happy birthday!

Awesome 10k Run46. You have reminded me to charge my watch up tonight! It is not holding its charge as well as it used to……it would probably say the same of me! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ™‚

Thanks BC66, defo get that watch charged...it luckily worked in my favour & added a bit of excitement to the run, but I'd rather not chance it again! Where would we be without out tech πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Thanks CLR 😊 Hmm, that's not good...is it getting on? Maybe time for an upgrade! I hate that you can't just change the battery on things anymore.

I know - slightly concerned that if it won't last a half - I'm going to be abandoned on a marathon run!

Happy Birthday Run46, πŸŽ‚you did brilliantly to make the full 10k distance, as you have been building back up again after illness.

So glad you managed to finish before your watch battery died, an added incentive eh? ☺
