Race Prep!

It’s the Friday afternoon of race weekend!

I went out for a recovery run on Thursday evening and had originally planned a (short) speed run for this morning followed by the compulsory Friday afternoon pub visit. As it turned out, the forecast for today was “wet” so we weren’t over enthused about the pub visit. Hence, I got up really late today (I don’t work on Fridays). This meant that there wasn’t really enough time for both the run and the pub so I opted to abandon the run. I reckon that there’s very little to be gained from a speed run at this point; besides, I’m planning on a (gentle) ParkRun tomorrow and I’ve been tapering for four weeks now.

I’ve figured out most of the logistics for Sunday. My aim for Saturday is to take it easy, hydrate well and get to bed early (I’m planning on a 4:30 start for Sunday).

No idea how my race will go, I’ll find out on Sunday!

Really good luck to you! Sounds like you’re well prepared-hopefully the weather will be smiling on you for Sunday! Looking forward to the race report!

Thanks MU

The forecast is currently showing some rain mid-race. Hopefully, this will have changed by Sunday. Although a bit of rain shouldn't really make much difference.

How's your recovery going?

Things are going well thanks! I found a great physio who has given me a load of exercises to do, plus some (horrendous!) massages. I can have a gentle run for the first time tomorrow and see how it goes. Nothing like a parkrun for me…probably only ten or fifteen minutes depending on whether things feel good or not but I can’t wait!

I love that a Friday afternoon pub visit is a compulsory part of Sunday race prep 😀, though less impressed that rain is enough to knock that into touch 😀Good luck on Sunday. I bet you smash it 😊

Ah. It was the run that I abandoned due to rain (and failing to get ready in time). Pub visit still went ahead.

For some reason that makes me feel so much better 😍😍😍 (not sure I should admit that)

Thanks Freecloud. In the end, I was a bit quicker than that. Working on a race report now.

Is a pub visit a compulsory part of race day preparation? I missed that in the manuals (not that I read them). I know someone who likes a Guinness post run, but need to research more about the benefits of a small libation before a run….. perhaps I could do a trial???

Could be worth trying. The pub visit is compulsory for every Friday! This just happened to be a marathon weekend.
