What's the time?

I don't mean the length time it took me to run the Liverpool 10 miles this morning, but, given the arrival of British summertime, checking and double checking that the alarm clocks were correctly set for 6.30am! I needn't have worried, I was awake long before the alarm.

The Liverpool 10 miles and HM event was well organised and supported. Both races were sold out and 5,000 runners lined up for a 9am start. The atmosphere was buzzing, yet relaxed and the clouds gave way to bursts of sunshine and blue skies.

We set off along the flat waterfront, past the Albert Dock, turned uphill, with the Anglican cathedral on the left. This was the only hill on the route and the part I was dreading, with an elevation of around 130ft over half a mile. However, I took my time and it was just fine.

The route continued towards and through Princes Park, the daffs were in full bloom waving their support and there was plenty of chatter, banter and encouragement along the way. We ran on into Sefton park where the HMers split off to cover the additional distance. The 10 milers enjoyed a downhill stretch, then a right turn onto the waterfront.

The finish was now in sight, the wind was helping, but there was still 4 miles to go! I found this the toughest section, my legs were starting to feel tired and HM runners were now racing past me. The support was great though and I certainly wasn't going to give up at this point.

I crossed the finish line with a time of 1:44:29, 10.29/mile. I was aiming for a steady pace of 11/mile, so I was pleased with this result. Even more pleasing is the fact that we have raised money for Cystic Fibrosis.

Well done on your 10 miles race Cantstopmenow. That is an excellent achievement. What a colourful bunch you are too. Excellent fundraising for cystic fibrosis.

Thanks Dexy. Colourful indeed! One of the ladies with a wig had her photo in the Liverpool Echo. I'm so pleased I didn't have a wig, I would have overheated. 😃

Thank you IP. There was a great atmosphere and lots of encouragement from runners and spectators alike. One of my running buddies came into Liverpool on his bike, tracked us along the route and turned up various points to cheer us on. What a great guy 🙂

Thanks CSMN, after covid 3 times in the last year, leaving me with a little chest tightness it's slow going at the minute but I'm still getting out there and I certainly appreciate every run, even if they are a little short & sweet 🙂
